Sure Haven Treatment Program

ABOUT SURE HAVEN TREATMENT PROGRAM

Located in Costa Mesa, Calif., Sure Haven Treatment Program provides gender-exclusive care for women who are struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. The center offers a full treatment continuum that includes detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), and continuing care. Additionally, the facility provides legal counsel for clients and supportive family programming for their loved ones.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients are assigned an admissions counselor to help determine the most appropriate course of treatment and prepare the clinical team for the client’s arrival. Sure Haven’s treatment is delivered in four distinct phases, beginning with detoxification, which addresses withdrawal symptoms as well as any mental health concerns that may be playing a role in the client’s substance abuse. During residential treatment, the second phase, each client is assigned a case manager and a primary therapist who work together to create a customized treatment plan. Most plans include a combination of individual therapy, group counseling, educational sessions, and process groups. Daily transportation to off-site 12-step meetings is provided, and clients have access to outdoor activities, nutrition groups, guided meditation, and group fitness classes.

The third treatment phase consists of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care. This phase focuses on strengthening life skills and incorporates SMART Recovery training and experiential therapies, including art therapy. During this phase, clients enroll in the AVEnues Program, which provides them with opportunities for employment, academics, or volunteering. Counselors help each participant choose an appropriate path based on their prior experience, interests, and goals.

The fourth and final phase is continuing care. Program graduates continue to receive support and guidance from Sure Haven’s staff for up to a year. Continuing care is provided through follow-up calls and alumni events.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Other amenities include ample outdoor space, swimming pool access, cable TV, and video games. Kitchens are fully stocked, and meals are prepared by nutritionists.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com provided mixed reviews of Sure Haven, with strong feelings on both ends of the spectrum. Both Kim and Cynthia credited the facility with saving their lives. “My case manager was the best and I can still reach out to her for help. If you want to be sober go to Sure Haven,” Kim told Best-rehabs.com. Brittany felt that the weekly outings were limited, but still provided the program’s treatment effectiveness with a rating of five out of five stars. “They make you feel very comfortable here not like any other place I’ve been too. They listen and help you work through everything,” she wrote.

However, not all alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com were satisfied with the care they received. D.K. complained about organizational issues and noted that she would not recommend the facility to others. Another alum, L.E., submitted a one-star review for the center’s treatment effectiveness, highlighting medication management mistakes. “One of the doctors cannot get his notes straight with what meds he’s given to his patients at their visits… Ordering meds for me that I clearly told him during my visit, that I have a bad reaction with it,” she told Best-rehabs.com.

Melissa, the one alum who submitted a review on Yelp, rated the facility with five out of five stars and expressed gratitude for the program’s comprehensive treatment approach.[1] “From the support staff, to case workers, to counselors, to even the cooks, and drivers. Sure Haven provided me with a complete medical detox. And all staff where very kind and compassionate… I was given one on one counseling, small group therapy,” she wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed reviews. One anonymous respondent felt that Sure Haven was a decent facility overall. Cheryl gave high ratings for the facility’s accommodations and meals, but felt that the program lacked aftercare and was too short. “Too much freedom,” she wrote. “Program wasn’t long enough and addicts need more than 60 days.”

On Yelp, seven loved ones of clients were divided in their opinions of Sure Haven. Kelley, Victoria, and Jennifer provided ratings of five out of five stars. Each expressed appreciation for the caring staff and the programming, which they characterized as diverse and comprehensive. “They program all day they have different classes all day long they go to barbecues together with all the other houses they teach them how to be sober,” Victoria wrote in her review. Jennifer provided a similar assessment. “The residents receive 5 star treatment. Delicious food, beautiful residence, well educated and kind therapists. It’s definitely not your typical rehab facility,” she wrote.

Yelp reviewers who were displeased with the care their loved ones received cited billing problems, communication issues with staff, and ineffective treatment. “My sister attended this program…for a lot of money. Didn’t work… She complained of crowded conditions and uncaring staff,” Lisa wrote in her one-star review.

  • One of the doctors cannot gets his notes straight with what meds he's given to his patients at their visits. I love the house, but it's not okay for a medical professional to make mistakes such as he did. Ordering meds for me that I clearly told him during my visit, that I have a bad reaction with it. And taking meds off my chart when my new ones hadn't even arrived to me yet. His office doesn't respond to the staff sending messages asking for these errors to be fixed. I will be going to a person higher then the dr who's supposed to be "responsible" for proper treatment.
This treatment saved my life. My case manager was the best and I can still reach out to her for help. If you want to be sober go to Sure Haven.
