ABOUT TEEN CHALLENGE – LOS ANGELES
With more than 200 locations nationwide, including Connecticut, Georgia, and Boston, Teen Challenge USA is a faith-based network of rehab facilities. The Los Angeles location provides long-term residential treatment to adult men and women. A specialized program for adolescent males is located in Santa Ana.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
All clients must complete an in-person interview and commit to a minimum of one year in treatment to be admitted to the program. According to the rehab’s information packet, Teen Challenge’s treatment approach is based on a multi-step model rooted in Christian principles. The one staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com to date indicated that the 12-step model was not incorporated into treatment.
The primary purpose of the program is to teach clients how to apply Biblical principles to their everyday life; classes focus on topics such as “Successful Christian Living,” “Obedience to God,” and “Personal Relationships With Others.” Daily devotions, Bible study, chapel service, and regular church attendance are also vital components of treatment, along with crisis counseling and weekly support groups. Vocational training and GED courses are also offered.
In addition to their daily curriculum, clients are assigned household chores and must become involved in activities and community service programs outside of the facility.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. The two alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Teen Challenge one and three out of five stars respectively for its staff’s level of training and experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
All Teen Challenge programs are tobacco-free. Clients may not receive visits or phone calls for the first 10 days of treatment. The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the facility three and five out of five stars respectively for its accommodations and amenities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two former clients surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date gave Teen Challenge mostly positive reviews. Both former clients awarded the facility four or five out of five stars for its exercise options, its staff support, its cleanliness, its frequency and consistency of meetings, its member empowerment/safety, and its overall level of group counseling. “Teen Challenge is faith based, Christian treatment,” wrote M.P. in a representative review. “If you are not interested in that, it may not be the place for you. But it does work, if you do the program.”
On Google, the Los Angeles facility received an average rating of 3.9 out of five stars based on seven reviews, though no commentary was left.[1]
WHAT STAFF SAY
The one former staffer surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing noted that they would recommend the program to friends and family. They also gave Teen Challenge five out of five stars for its willingness to put client interests first.
