ABOUT PACIFIC SHORES RECOVERY

Located blocks from the beach in Southern California’s upscale neighborhood of Newport Beach, Orange County, Pacific Shores Recovery offers detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), and transitional living environments for individuals struggling with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. Dually diagnosed clients can find help at this facility, too.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The center offers residential programs in durations of 30, 60, 90, and 180 days. Clients participate in 12-step meeting on- and off-site during their stay. Beyond meetings, the program includes individual counseling, and much of the center’s programming takes place in groups: process groups are gender-separate, whereas educational groups are co-ed. The center also offers family counseling in both private and group settings. Experiential options include art therapy, writing sessions, exercise, and yoga, and spirituality is taken into account through meditation and an encouragement to shift from thoughts of the self to thoughts of a higher power. The center also offers programming around trauma, self-esteem, anger management, relationships, and codependency, and provides job placement assistance, relapse prevention training, and court liaison services.

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves programming Monday through Friday, while general outpatient care includes programming three days a week. On both tracks, clients participate in individual and group counseling.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, staff includes a clinical psychologist and certified addiction counselors. The website also promises access to access to doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurses. The single individual polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, a former employee of the facility, gave the center one out of five stars for its staff’s credentials and experience levels.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The organization operates two sober-living facilities, one in Costa Mesa and the other in Newport Beach; all residential facilities are gender-separate. Clients have access to a 24-hour gym, and can enjoy recreational activities such as hiking, beach outings, drum circles, barbecues, trips to museums, and more.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Best-rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews directly from alumni of Pacific Shores Recovery, and secondary sites yielded mixed-to-positive coverage at the time of this writing, with a 3.92-star average rating based on 24 reviews on Yelp, and on Google, a single five-star rating.[1] [2]

The negative reviews on these secondary sites very often echoed one other, and one of the most frequent complaints was unqualified staff: “Although they’re nice people with good intentions, what the owners call counselors are just other sober people who live in the houses rent-free and essentially act as glorified babysitters… they are not professionals or licensed in any way,” J.H. wrote in a representative review on Yelp. Other recurring complaints cited questionable business practices, particularly with regard to billing, as well as inconsistent alcohol and drug testing; however, numerous reviewers praised the staff and noted that they had achieved sobriety at this facility, often after failed attempts elsewhere. “I’ve been struggling with my sobriety for years now, in and out of treatment and I finally feel like I found the level of care I’ve been missing with other programs,” K.R. wrote in a representative review on Yelp.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The single staff review submitted to Best-rehabs.com to date was negative, echoing many of the complaints made by alumni on secondary sites, as detailed above. “It is sad how terrible staff is with each other and the management is difficult to work with… They will tell these poor parents anything to keep them for more money… Sadly not many of the patients have stayed sober,” the anonymous staffer wrote, giving the facility one star for its honesty, its willingness to put clients’ interests first, and the overall quality of its care.

“Great in employee training and taking the time to know each client on a personal and individual basis,” another staffer wrote in a four-star review on Indeed, in the only secondary staff review Best-rehabs.com was able to find at the time of this writing.[3]

FINANCING

According to Pacific Shores’ website, insurance is accepted, though the center does not specify whether it’s in-network or out-of-network. “They’ll bill you for much more then it is worth,” wrote the single individual polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, a former staffer who also gave the facility one out of five stars for the fairness of its price point.
