The Hills Treatment Center

The Hills Treatment Center Los Angeles California

The Hills Treatment Center is dedicated to providing a safe, structured environment for individuals in a transitional phase of recovering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. During this transitional period, we empower clients to transform their lives replacing their old feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness with renewed optimism, dignity, and confidence.
Our clients are given tools to begin building their new foundation of lasting recovery. Our support staff is committed to excellence while ensuring each client feels fully supported through this transitional period. Residents are encouraged to attend 12 Step meetings or group therapy sessions as well as continuing to see their personal therapist or psychiatrist. The end result is our clients begin to develop realistic and attainable goals and ultimately a new vision of life.
Our goal is to replace one’s demoralization, shame and guilt with honor, dignity and a sense of one’s true self.
At The Hills Center we help our clients gain an understanding that drugs and alcohol have created depression, demoralization, and the experience of feeling out of control. As a result of this realization our clients begin to recognize that they have become powerless over their use of drugs and alcohol and have lost their sense of personal power in the process. In helping our clients to understand their primary purpose, we teach them to live with honor and dignity as they begin to regain personal power over their lives and the ability to live their dreams.

ABOUT THE HILLS TREATMENT CENTER

Located on a gated 3.5-acre campus in the Hollywood Hills, The Hills is an exclusive, luxury rehab center that offers a full continuum of treatments for individuals struggling with addiction, including process addictions, eating disorders, and dual diagnosis. The Hills provides medical detoxification, a residential program, and outpatient-based treatments.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Hills aims to provide individualized treatment that puts the client at the center of their own recovery while treating any underlying trauma. Upon admission, clients undergo an initial behavioral and mental health assessment, allowing clinicians to form an individualized treatment plan.

Treatment at The Hills combines 12-step facilitation with a range of evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and systemic family therapy.

Outpatient options include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and general outpatient programming. PHP runs six or seven days a week, and IOP involves between three to six three-hour sessions each week. There are dedicated programs for LGBT clients, though the program details are not provided.

Additionally, the Hills believes that aftercare is a key aspect of the recovery process, and detailed plans are developed for each individual following treatment. These plans include follow-up appointments, reminders, and regular check-ins.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility boasts a staff-to-client ratio of 1:3. The founder is a doctor of psychology who has been clean and sober from drug addiction for 29 years. The staff also includes a nurse and master’s level therapists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Hills is a luxurious, gated home with a pool. There are 21 available beds, and private rooms are available. A secluded three-bedroom cottage is also available for those clients who wish to detox in privacy, and there is also a separate unit for couples in detox. Each of those options comes with Internet and cable. Meals are prepared by a chef on staff, and pets are welcome. Holistic options include horticulture therapy, yoga, and massage.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing there have been dozens of alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com. Alumni gave overwhelmingly positive reviews. Alum Eloise gave the facility five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, five stars for accommodations & amenities, and five stars for meals & nutrition. She wrote, “I loved the hills, my stay was amazing and I owe my life to them…I’m truly blessed to have been at the hills and I’m eternally greatful,” in a representative review.

Alum F.J.H., who gave the facility five stars across all metrics, was happy with how the staff could empathize with the clients. He commented “None” when asked about facility weaknesses, and exclaimed, “This is by far the best treatment center I know of I work in the field and with many places this is by far the greatest” when asked about strengths. The caring staff was highly praised by many alumni, and former client R.S. felt, “Since the vast majority of staff are recovering alcoholics and addicts themselves, it is easy to relate to them and be inspired by them.” M.M. mentioned the continuing care and support after treatment, writing, ” I love knowing that, once I leave from The Hills, my connection isn’t over.”

When surveyed on facility weaknesses, most alumni had nothing to critique. Alum M.N. simply wrote, “Price” and alum J.S.M. expressed frustration that many of the clients seemed to be “going back to rehab over and over and over again.”

The Hills received similarly high reviews on Google, where 15 users generated a four-star average.[1] The majority of the written comments make note of the respectful staff and personalized care. M.G. left the positive comment, “they tailor to the individual.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the three reviews received from loved ones to date, two were positive and one was negative. Loved one S.T. wrote that her daughter was “improving with the support and guidance” of the team at The Hills. She gave the facility five stars across all metrics.

L.S., the daughter of a former client, also gave five stars for treatment effectiveness. She was pleased that the staff treated her mother with “care and dignity”, and she appreciated the level of family participation available. “The Monday night support group is amazing and it is good to see the ones whom did make it,” she wrote.

However, K.C. wrote, “I feel the treatment center preys on the fears of family members to keep their loved ones in treatment rather than the center being effective or not.” She gave only one star for family involvement, pricing, and holistic offerings. “There was no structure, the groups were led by unlicensed people, some they picked up in AA meetings, … it was a horror story at over $50,000 / month,” she added. K.C. also gave the facility just one out of five stars for treatment effectiveness.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole current staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing, T.K., has worked at the facility for over a year. T.K. gave the facility good marks in most categories. She gave five out of five stars for the staff’s ability to inspire loyalty/sense of community among patients, willingness to put patients’ interests first, and the credentials/experience of the treatment staff. T.K. wrote that the facility’s strengths include “small high staff to patient ratio, uses evidenced based practices, takes PPO insurance, has scholarships, high quality treatment with affordable pricing, individualized treatment, uses licensed and credentialed staff.”

FINANCING

The center accepts insurance on an out-of-network basis. One alum wrote that her treatment cost $50,000 for one month; the facility does not post their fee schedule online.

The Hills Treatment Center Reviews

The Hills Treatment Center is a top-notch facility with a team of professionals who truly care about their patients. I would recommend this center to anyone struggling with addiction.
I don't know if there are enough words that really convey the amount of help I've received thanks to the team here at Hills. I know I have the ability to stay clean this time and I can thrive because of their help. Before their help, it felt like an endless loop of clean, heal, stumble, relapse. After Hills I can say I've been clean and sober for years.
Being clean for more than a year has been one of the most impressive accomplishments I've ever savored. This is a fantastic accomplishment made possible through my time at Hills. I'm really glad that I got connected with them and found the best results of my life.
I can't say enough good about the people who helped me at Hills Treatment Center. They are wonderful and supportive all the way from the first moment you enter the building until long after you've left. Their aftercare program is empowering.
I am so glad that we were able to get my spouse in here. Recovery has been real instead of passing this time and we know how to properly offer support and empowering resources now. This was the best choice for our family.
