ABOUT FLORIDA CENTER FOR RECOVERY

Located near Fort Pierce, Fla., Florida Center for Recovery is a private facility, which make up about 51 percent of all treatment facilities in Florida. It offers inpatient treatment, outpatient programs, and detox to individuals struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. A specialized program for pregnant women is also available,

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to Florida Center for Recovery’s website, treatment begins with an initial medical and psychiatric evaluation to determine if detoxification is necessary. Following detoxification, clients may transition to inpatient treatment. Treatment is individualized and clients will participate in 12-Step work or opt to be involved in SMART Recovery.

Treatment for those with gambling, alcohol and drug addiction is offered along with self-harm and eating disorders. Programming includes Individual, family, and group therapy, along with other holistic options such as art therapy, yoga, acupuncture, and chiropractic therapy.

Outpatient treatment is offered through partial hospitalization (PHP) or intensive outpatient (IOP) programming. PHP programming lasts 20 hours a week while IOP is less structured and consists of nine hours.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Florida Center for Recovery’s website notes the treatment team includes a medical doctor, psychiatrists, nurses, mental health counselors and addiction specialists, and nutritionists. Specialized staff includes a yoga instructor, personal trainer, and massage therapist.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Florida Center for Recovery’s website indicates men and women reside in separate areas and will share bedrooms with another resident. Meals are prepared by a chef on-site, and residents have access to a library, basketball and volleyball court, and game room. Residents can walk through gardens and admire a Zen waterfall.

The 11 alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date provided mostly positive feedback, and indicated they would recommend Florida Center for Recovery. Most alumni also gave four- or five- out of five stars when asked about treatment effectiveness.

While some alumni had mixed feelings about the staff, it was mostly positive about staffers. Alumni were less impressed with other offerings such as exercise and leisure activities, holistic options and, family participation.

“The staff was helpful, nice and accommodating,” an alum wrote in a representative review. “The food and atmosphere were great. I loved the place and would recommend it as a great place to get back to life.”

To date, the 17 people who left Google Reviews for Florida Center for Recovery gave an average of 3.5 out of five stars.[1] Most of the alumni wrote great things about the center and its staff. “The staff is great they know how to take care of the clients and they really do care,” Corey wrote in a representative Google Review. “I went there twice and both times they were great to me.”

Negative feedback included calling the center a joke, an alum indicated they were robbed at the facility, and mean staff members.

The five loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed feedback for treatment effectiveness. Several loved ones gave positive reviews for staff training and counseling options.

“The group therapy was good. My boyfriend stayed there and did very well,” a loved one wrote. Another loved one gave staff positive ratings overall but wrote: “really needed more time with my loved one but the scholoship ran out of time.”

Negative feedback included high prices, too many clients at the center, and too many group sessions.

  • Personalized treatment plans because one size doesn't fit everybody. Too many group sessions. You have to be ready to help yourself before you come to a facility such as the one in Florida. They can't help you unless you are willing to try.

    The psycologist really needed more time with my loved one but the scholoship ran out of time. The counsellors and psycologist were wonderful to her.

  • Pretty strong all around. A small number of staff could have been trained better. On a scale of 1-10 I would give FCR a 9. The staff was helpful, nice and accommodating. The food and atmosphere were great. I loved the place and would recommend it as a great place to get back to life.

  • I believe some of the staff genuinely care. I feel that most of the staff do not care and are untrustworthy. I believe the patients don't wan to be there either.

  • It showed me that I could go to a meeting without the fear of someone saying that I was there. I also learned more about NA meetings. I even wanted to be a NA leader in my home town. It helped me greatly and the tools I brought home helped when I relapsed.
