ABOUT THE WILLOUGH AT NAPLES

Naples, Fla. is home to The Willough at Naples, a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. The Willough at Naples offers an array of treatment options including services for patients in acute crisis who require immediate, secure treatment. The facility offers residential, and partial hospitalization (PHP) treatment for adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Residential treatment typically ranges in length from 21 to 28 days.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, all clients undergo a comprehensive assessment of their physical, mental, emotional, and social health. This allows the clients and staff to develop an individualized treatment plan and determine the level of services needed. Based on the assessment findings, the clinical team creates a treatment plan that incorporates a variety of modalities including medication management, psychological testing and treatment, group therapy, and individual therapy.

Alternative treatment methods are also encouraged, including recreational therapy, family education, nutritional consultation, and relapse prevention to help clients establish a healthy living lifestyle.

While the PHP program treats substance abuse and addiction issues, it is also targeted at other behavioral health issues. Clients can seek treatment for bipolar disorder, PTSD, depression, and psychotic disturbances among other issues. The PHP program uses a range of therapy treatments to address the underlying causes of these issues combined with focused counseling to improve each client’s’ condition.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team, according to the center’s website, consists of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and mental health therapists. Additional staff members may be available to help with specific therapies including recreational therapists, activity leaders, and administrative staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Few photographs of the 87-bed facility and its amenities are available online. Through the recreation therapy program, patients have access to a pool, board games, arts and crafts, and a beach volleyball court.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Alumni response to The Willough was mixed, based on the feedback from eight alumni to date. Most alumni gave the facility an overall rating of four or five out of five stars, though couldn’t agree which aspects of the treatment program were strengths.

Among these alumni was K.H., who believed the center uncovered and addressed some of the issues at the root of their addiction. K.H. gave their treatment four out of five stars and wrote: “It was very informative. Found out about other problems that I had.”

Multiple alumni who reported successful experiences warned potential clients that treatment efficacy directly correlated with each client’s attitude. P.J.M. praised everything from classes to the meal plan, writing: “This place is fantastic, very clean made service, the food is an A+, and they offer many many educational courses, of course if you’re there and don’t want to be you’ll think it sucks, but that’s your loss.” An anonymous alum noted similar things in their review: “Don’t go to any rehab until you know you are ready and go for your self, no one else.”

Conversely, two alumni gave The Willough ratings of one out of five stars for its accommodations, treatment effectiveness, and the staff’s level of training and experience. These alumni had particularly negative things to share about the facility. Alum Angela claimed that she was held in a psychiatric unit against her will for refusing medication and wrote: “it was based on feeding the clients meds to keep them so knocked out they had no idea what was going on, psych meds were pushed on clients nonstop.”

On its official Facebook page, the facility earned 4.4 out of five stars from 17 reviews.[1] Many alumni praised the facility’s treatment effectiveness and the quality of the staff. On Google, the facility received three out of five stars from six reviews.[2] The alumni praised the program, though questioned the quality of the facility. In a representative review, an anonymous alum wrote: “This is an awesome place. Many of the staff have been there for many years I learned and that made me feel more comfortable. Most of the people were supportive and friendly. Its obviously not the Ritz but then again I’ve never stayed at a Ritz Carlton.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The seven reviews of The Willough from friends and family are mixed. When polled on a scale from one to five if they would recommend the facility to others, the facility earned an average rating of 3.14 out of five stars.

The facility earned its highest ratings for cleanliness, an average of 3.86 out of five stars, and family participation, an average of 3.72 out of five stars. One anonymous family member did note that family visitation seemed a bit short at only 30 minutes, and that the program could have incorporated more activities that promoted relaxation; however, this reviewer still awarded treatment effectiveness five out stars and wrote: “This facility helped my husband alot. Treatment was effective.”

One concerning review alleges that the facility pushed prescription drugs on a patient, with the reviewer, loved one Missy, writing “All they want is insurance money. Pure greec. Don’t care about the clients only the money.” The facility earned an average of 2.67 out of five stars regarding affordability.

The Willough at Naples Reviews

dual diagnosis treatment. the building has some age on it, but the program is all day and they do offer detox and take medicare.
Went there to detox, was ineffective...Can't find a place that my insurance will cover to get me off of the stuff. The Willoughs were poorly staffed, offers a pool, but couldn't use it half of the time because there were no lifeguards. ...this is a psychiatric hospital, not a dual diagnosis hospital like I thought. Would never ever recommend this facility to anyone.
twelve steps oriented with good groups. Tend to coddle patients too much, like everything else in recovery it is what you make it
Their able to offer family counseling. This facility helped my husband alot. Treatment was effective. The visitations were very Short... only 30 minutes Maybe it can offer more relaxation programs such as massages etc
Group therapy was good. Security needs improvement.
