ABOUT RECOVERY PLACE

Established in 1984 near midtown Savannah, Ga., Recovery Place offers a range of services for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, including residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and outpatient program (OP). Daycare and medically supervised detoxification are available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment begins with a 60- to 90-minute evaluation of the client’s physical, psychological, and emotional health. All treatment programs utilize a strengths-based approach and include medical management, experiential psychotherapy, spirituality, relapse prevention work, 12-step programming, and aftercare. In addition, a family group is held once a week.

Clients in the residential program typically stay between one and six weeks, depending on their needs. They attend two individual therapy sessions a week, along with six hours of group therapy on weekdays and three hours of group therapy on weekends.

The PHP/IOP is offered Monday through Friday in the morning, day, and evening. Clients engage in group and individual therapy, educational sessions, and have an ongoing support system that includes 12-step groups. OP, known as Level One Outpatient Services, enables clients to attend regularly scheduled counseling sessions while carrying on their regular daily routine.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Recovery Place is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The facility’s website notes that the staff is “fully licensed” and includes a physician, but does not give any further details.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Aside from indicating residential clients stay in a condominium close to their treatment services and 12-step meetings, there is no other information regarding living arrangements and related offerings. However, two alumni awarded the facility three out of five stars for accommodations and amenities on the Best-rehabs.com survey.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the Recovery Place mixed feedback. The two anonymous reviewers felt the program lacked holistic treatment options, as well as exercise and leisure activities. One provided positive ratings, such as high four out of five stars for staff experience and family participation. This reviewer thought the staff and education were great but that individual counseling was lacking.

The other anonymous alum gave the facility mostly low one and two out of five stars, including one star for overall treatment effectiveness and two stars for counselor training and staff support. “It’s nothing more than an AA meeting and it’s expensive. I got sober on my own,” the alum wrote, and added: “I felt alone and depressed and they were uncaring about it,” the alum wrote. An additional alum, S., reported a negative experience, and told Best-rehabs.com: “Some people can fail drug test and nothing happens but others pass and get kicked out because they want them to tell on others. Do not recommend this place at all.” .

On the facility’s Facebook page, which the organization can manage, Recovery Place received an average of 4.7 out of five stars from seven reviews.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com by loved ones at the time of this writing were mixed. An anonymous reviewer gave perfect five-star ratings for overall treatment effectiveness, staff experience, counseling options, and co-occurring disorders, though they marked only three stars for exercise options and affordability. “They were supportive and worked with family to continue support even after check out,” the anonymous loved one remarked. In addition, the parent of an alum wrote to Best-rehabs.com with a complaint about difficulty with the insurance approval process.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Based on six employee reviews on Glassdoor to date, Recovery Place received an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars. Staff reviewers cited lack of communication with management, as well as low morale. Regardless, most praised their direct work with the clients.

FINANCING

On its website, Recovery Place indicates that it accepts most private insurance. It also takes Medicaid and self pay, and has options for those who do not have insurance.

Recovery Place Reviews

This place is a joke. Some people can fail drug test and nothing happens but others pass and get kicked out because they want them to tell on others. Do not recommend this place at all
**after my son left the recovery place which is an " in network" program for my insurance, we received a call saying we have been sent to collections. After researching this ,we found that insurance is more than willing to pay the claim. They had not been contacted by the recovery place. The recovery place says they went back and forth with the insurance and sent out several letters in which we received none. Apparently the negotiated rate in which the recovery place has with the insurance companies is not enough so they go after the families ...Just wanted to bring awareness of the type of deals one can possibly expect from the recovery place.

  • There was good education provided about addiction; the personnel and experience were also great. However, there was not enough one on one time.

  • It was just not helpful to be locked in a house with 5 other people and carted to meetings. I felt alone and depressed and they were uncaring about it. They just wanted to brainwash a smile on your face and have you chant the AA stuff...I felt worse when I left than when I went in...It's nothing more than an AA meeting and it's expensive. I got sober on my own.
