Riverside Alcohol and Drug Services is a hospital-based chemical dependency program of the Robert Young Center (RYC), a community mental health center serving the Quad Cities area. Located in Rock Island, Ill., Riverside offers 24/7 crisis intervention services, medical detox, and outpatient programs for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse.are available.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, residential care at Riverside involves 12-step participation and strongly encourages family participation. Clients participate in residential, outpatient or detox programs. In any treatment track, clients participate in individual and group counseling, as well as education about addiction, rehabilitation, and relapse prevention.
Residential treatment is process-oriented and uses educational workshops to help educate clients about life skills and relapse prevention.
According to the facility’s website, there is a program for continuing care. This includes attending group sessions led by a certified addiction counselor. To participate, clients must commit to attending at least one group session per week. Additional individual and family sessions are available by appointment for the aftercare program.
The treatment team includes registered nurses, certified addiction counselors, psychiatrists, and other behavioral health staff.

According to Robert Young Center’s website, the residential program has 15 beds, and Best-rehabs.com reviewers gave four out of five star ratings or higher for the quality and cleanliness of the accommodations.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Seven alumni provided feedback for Riverside Alcohol and Drug Services to date. They provided mostly positive reviews. Three of the four alumni surveyed on whether they would recommend the center would recommend it to others who needed it.
Alumni polled on the staff’s level of training and experience gave an average rating of 3.67 out of five stars. Alum Nancy wrote: “I was at one of the lowest points in my life. The staff and counselors at riverside helped me back on my feet and gave me the tools that I needed to feel a part of society again and helped me love myself once again.” Several alumni noted the psychiatrists were the center’s strengths.
This program received exclusively four- and five-star ratings for its affordability; however, this wasn’t always perceived as a positive factor. As one alum wrote: “State funded leading to inadequate diagnosis and poor treatment… I would not recommend this facility.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two anonymous loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its accommodations, its meals and nutrition, its holistic treatment offerings, its affordability, and its counseling options. Neither could name any weaknesses of the facility. One wrote: “Amazing staff,” and another praised the “kindness, confidence resources.”
According to the center’s website, Robert Young Center accepts many forms of insurance. Also, according to the website of UnityPoint Health, the overarching health care organization that runs these centers, there is financial assistance for the uninsured and underinsured.
