ABOUT ILLINOIS INSTITUTE FOR ADDICTION RECOVERY – HARVEY

The Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery (IIAR) has been providing hospital-based addiction treatment programs since 1979. The agency offers a full continuum of addiction services for individuals struggling with chemical dependency as well as other addictions and disorders, including compulsive gambling, sex, gaming, and eating. One of four IIAR outlets, Ingalls Health System (also known as Ingalls Memorial Hospital) is located in the Chicago suburb of Harvey. This facility offers inpatient, day, and outpatient programming for adults. Detoxification services are available on-site. Ingalls also offers psychiatric treatment for adolescents and adults. The IIAR program at UnityPoint Health in Peoiria treats adolescents and offers holistic therapy options.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery website, clients can receive an initial no-cost psychiatric and substance use assessment on a walk-in or appointment basis. This 90-minute process includes an interview and testing. A 2010 Ingalls publication notes that a maximum inpatient stay is 28 days.

IIAR’s programming blends intensive group and individual counseling sessions with 12-step participation and educational lectures. Dual diagnosis clients also receive medication management services to address co-occurring disorders. The intensive outpatient program involves attending four evening sessions weekly and focuses on relapse prevention and self-care.

IIAR also offers a 90-day continuum of care that follows a “step-down” approach to treatment. A client begins with detoxification and inpatient services and progress through IIAR’s less-intensive programs as they become more stable in their recovery.

During the later, aftercare stages of treatment, clients attend individual and group counseling as needed, while remaining involved in the community, including regular 12-step meeting attendance.
