ABOUT PATHWAYS
Located in Louisa, Kentucky, Pathways offers a range of community services, behavioral health support, and developmental disability support for individuals struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. Additionally, Pathways provides specialty services for women and children. According to the organization’s website, Pathways operates 50 facilities within a ten-county region. This review specifically focuses on the services provided by the Louisa facility, which includes outpatient services, therapeutic rehabilitation, and day training for adults.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The Louisa facility offers day treatment and general outpatient services, which both include individual counseling, family and group therapy, addiction education classes, referrals to vocational services, and self-help group facilitation. The facility also offers family programs and other recovery support services to promote lasting recovery for clients. These may include therapy sessions, educational workshops, and access to community resources. The Louisa facility also serves as a “point of entry” for residential treatment at the Ashland location.
While not all addiction services are available at the Louisa location, Pathways as a whole offers a variety of treatment modalities. This includes short-term residential treatment at its Ashland location, which follows the research-based Hazelden/Minnesota model and typically lasts 10 to 14 days. Pathways also provides outpatient and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for individuals with co-occurring disorders, victim advocacy services, DUI assessments and education, and specialized treatment programs for women, adolescents, and pregnant women at risk for substance abuse through its KIDS NOW Plus program.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team at Pathways includes a staff psychiatrist, a director of nursing and medical services, master’s level counselors, licensed social workers, nurses, and mental health support staff. According to feedback received by Best-rehabs.com, the staff at Pathways is highly trained and experienced, receiving a five out of five stars rating in this regard.

At the time of this writing, Best-rehabs.com had surveyed one individual who had a loved one treated at Pathways. The review was largely positive, with the loved one giving five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, meals and nutrition, cleanliness, staff’s level of training and experience, and the facility’s treatment of co-occurring disorders. However, they noted that there were not enough recreational activities available.
FINANCING
Pathways accepts some insurance plans, including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, WellCare, and Passport Health Plan. While specific prices are not disclosed on the facility’s website, the only individual surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date rated the facility five out of five stars for affordability and stated that the treatment services were worth the cost.
