Hamilton Center, Inc.

Established in 1971, Hamilton Center, Inc. is a regional behavioral health system serving children, adolescents, adults, and families in central and west central Indiana. Though the organization does not state clearly which of its many treatments, programs, and services are available at its Plainfield location, set conveniently within minutes of Indianapolis International Airport, it does cater to a wide clientele of military veterans, LGBTQ individuals, and those seeking treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders. The organization offers outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, case management, educational programming, crisis intervention and transitional living services** for clients dealing with addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Detox is not available.

Treatment at Hamilton Center – Plainfield begins with an assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. The facility has a wide range of specializations available for assessment and treatment staff members. Clients are assigned to case managers that help develop a personalized treatment plan and guide clients through treatment.

Hamilton Center offers addiction services targeted at identifying and addressing the underlying behavioral health concerns. If needed, clients have access to the 24/7 crisis intervention unit to help them resolve immediate issues and begin treatment.

For those with more moderate issues, the center offers both standard and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care. While standard outpatient care involves individual and group therapy as well as educational lectures and case management services, the IOP track makes use of the unique Matrix Model.

The IOP includes three weekly two-hour sessions held over the course of 16 weeks. IOP clients take part in small group therapy sessions capped at 15 participants, training in relapse prevention, family education, 12-step meetings, and other self-help and educational groups. Attendance is mandatory, and clients may access drug screenings on-site, at an additional $25.

Beyond its inpatient, residential, and outpatient services, Hamilton Center also offers LGBTQ-affirming therapy, an eight-hour public education course titled Mental Health First Aid, employment services, and programming for military veterans. As with adults, the center runs intensive and non-intensive outpatient care for children and teens with addiction concerns, as well as Early Childhood Services for young children with emotional and behavioral issues.

The staff at Hamilton Center includes clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses and nurse practitioners, social workers, peer recovery specialists, care managers, and therapists. Staff members are required to maintain their certifications, licenses, and credentials in accordance with state and industry policies.

The residential program can accommodate up to 16 adults. Clients have 24/7 access to medical staff during their stay. The single reviewer polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the center five out of five stars for its cleanliness, but two out of five stars for both its accommodations and meals.

Best-rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, though reviews available on third-party sites presented quite a mixed picture.

On its unofficial Facebook page, for example, where five reviewers left an average rating of 3.2 out of five stars, alum Burt referred to those at Hamilton Center as the “Friendliest people I ever met,” adding: “they have really got me in touch with myself and has made great progress.” [1] Yet Lisa, the only other reviewer to have shared written commentary, gave Hamilton Center only one star. “They struggle with keeping appointment times!” Lisa wrote.

On Yelp, two very unhappy former clients left one-star reviews, both calling out rude staff and expensive treatment. “This place is beyond horrible,” alum Mark wrote. [2] “The staff here are just terrible in my opinion. They’re very rude, they seem not to care about your appointment, and they charge you ALOT of money for every appointment.”

On Google, the facility earned an average 4.2 out of five star rating from four reviews. [3] Alum Nick wrote: “Great Experience. If your willing to invest the time and materials provided. You will have great success here. I have an amazing therapist, and Doctor!”

The single loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com as of this writing shared generally positive feedback.

“This facility has completely changed my husband,” she wrote. “He is a better person, husband, and father because of the help he received from this facility.” She gave five out of five stars for family participation, cleanliness, counseling options, and the experienced staff.

Despite her otherwise positive feedback, she left only one star for treatment effectiveness, and claimed that treatment was “not very affordable,” which she gave three out of five stars.

Hamilton Center maintains that its rates are “competitive,” but shares no further details. Program fees may be covered by insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and other managed care plans, and Indiana residents may be eligible for “fee adjustments.”
