Our philosophy identifies alcohol abuse and drug abuse as primary, chronic and progressive disorders. These disorders affect the ability to effectively cope with life. As a result, addicts begin a progressive deterioration in all major areas of their life. The addictive signs show up physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. This also begins an intensive erosion of family values and relationships. Through a multi-disciplinary approach and an active involvement of our patients’ significant family members, the recovery process begins. This involvement includes active participation in weekly family care sessions and the three-day family workshop. Throughout the healing process, Acadiana Addiction Center also believes that early and continued involvement with 12 step self-help groups is crucial in the ongoing recovery of alcoholics/addicts and their families. Our patients are treated with dignity as they heal their lives – mind, body, and soul.
ABOUT ACADIANA ADDICTION CENTER
Operating since 2004, Acadiana Addiction Center provides a full continuum of treatment programs for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health difficulties. Located in the community of Sunset, La., 15 miles north of Lafayette, the facility offers residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and intensive outpatient program (IOP). If necessary, the center also facilitates medically supervised detoxification services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an initial substance abuse and psychiatric evaluation to determine an individualized treatment program and appropriate level of care. Individuals who require detoxification or would benefit from a supervised, highly-structure environment may be referred to the Acadiana Addiction Center’s residential program. The residential program typically lasts between 30 and 90 days, depending on the individual’s needs.
During residential treatment, residents adhere to a structured schedule of weekly individual therapy session and group counseling, which are process- and education-oriented. Group counseling is designed to help clients regulate emotions and learn skill-building techniques to help prevent relapse. Family members are also invited to attend weekly counseling and educational sessions and a three-day family program.
Counseling sessions utilize a range of therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and reality-based therapy. These evidence-based approaches are designed to correct faulty thinking, modify behavior, and help clients set goals. Acadiana Addiction Center also adheres to the 12-step model of recovery. Residents may attend on-site meetings and attend educational workshops on the principles and practices of 12-Step.
Along with evidence-based treatment approaches, the facility also incorporates a number of holistic and experiential treatment approaches. Residents attend spiritual counseling sessions, as well as participate in art therapy sessions and therapeutic recreation. Clients also receive nutritional consultations. In addition, dually diagnosed clients receive ongoing psychiatric evaluations and medication management. Once a individual completes residential treatment, Acadiana Addiction Center strongly encourages clients to utilize its PHP or IOP as transitional aftercare services.
PHP offers daily treatment for clients, while IOP involves a minimum of 10 hours of weekly programming. Both programs entails individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Clients must also fully participate with a community-based 12-step fellowship while enrolled in an outpatient-based program. Acadiana Addiction Center also facilitates an alumni community with scheduled events and activities.
