ABOUT AVERY ROAD TREATMENT CENTER
About 40 miles southwest of Baltimore, Md., Avery Road Treatment Center (ARTC) provides intensive inpatient services to low-income Montgomery County adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Medically managed detoxification is also available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Admissions include self-referring clients and those who have been referred by Access to Behavioral Health, jail, hospitals, or other treatment providers. According to the facility’s website, priority admission is given to pregnant women; individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, or tuberculosis; and those with child welfare or criminal justice involvement.
As an inpatient center, ARTC provides 24-hour care.
In January 2017, ARTC got approval to undergo a major renovation to improve an outdated facility and have room for more clients.

At the time of this writing, there is no information available on the facility’s website about its staff credentials.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The current facility has 20 beds for medical detox and 40 beds for inpatient care. At the time of this writing, however, Montgomery County is building a replacement facility that will offer 64 beds for inpatient treatment.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, five alumni have provided feedback about ARTC to Best-rehabs.com. Four of the five reviews were mostly positive, with some relatively lower ratings given to certain categories, including the facility’s holistic offerings and whether it was worth the cost. In these categories, all alumni surveyed gave the facility three out of five stars or lower.
Four of the five alumni polled to date gave four out of five stars or higher for family participation and affordability. Three out of the five alumni gave four out of five stars or higher for treatment effectiveness.
Some former clients reported heartfelt stories of personal transformation. Alum Donna, despite noting that the building was “in need of a major ‘facelift,’” credited ARTC with saving her life. “No exaggeration,” she wrote: “I would probably be dead if it weren’t for their compassion and encouragement and even their ‘tough love approach.’” Marta and Victoria also expressed their appreciation to the center for changing their lives.
On Google, ARTC received 3.5 out of five stars from 11 reviews.[1] Alum Barbara wrote: “I actually loved this place. It was rough the first three or four days, and I almost walked out. But then a light bulb went off in my head and the place came alive, and enjoyable, exciting, and much much learning of ones self. I realized I needed this and then did not want to leave after my 28 to 30 day requirement. I looked forward to every day with classes in reacting with the true people whom anted help there.”
On CiteHealth, ARTC earned a 3.8-star rating from five reviewers to date.[2] One anonymous reviewer would have preferred to go to jail. However, the other reviews were much more positive. One anonymous alum wrote: “the staff is so experienced, professional, and caring.” Another anonymous alum agreed that the program was for people that are ready to change: “if you are really serious about recovery, you can get it here.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
One loved one submitted feedback about ARTC to date. The review was fairly positive with some notable areas of concern. The loved one gave five out of five star reviews to the facility in the categories of meals and nutrition, exercise and leisure, connectivity, family participation, and the facility’s cleanliness; however, this same loved one gave three out of five stars or lower for treatment effectiveness, the facility’s holistic offerings, affordability, and whether the treatment was worth the cost.
FINANCING
According to CiteHealth, payments via Medicaid, state financed insurance, and private insurance are accepted.
