Based in the coastal city of Petoskey, Mich., Harbor Hall is a nonprofit organization that provides a full continuum of treatment services for substance abuse. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Male clients experiencing withdrawal symptoms typically begin their treatment with supervised detox. Although clients receive 24-hour monitoring, and medical personnel are on-call, treatment is usually based on social support. Once stabilized, clients may move on to residential treatment, the duration of which is between 28 and 90 days.
Residential treatment is highly structured and personalized according to each client’s individual assessment. Therapy, most of which is conducted in a group setting, addresses relapse prevention, decision making, social, and life skills, as well as any co-occurring mental health disorders. Residential treatment is offered to men exclusively.
For those seekingor a more flexible level of care, the center offers outpatient treatment for men, and Treatment is trauma-informed and conducted in gender-specific environments, utilizing modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Family counseling is also available on an outpatient basis. Transitional living, a 26-week program, is available to those who complete treatment but may benefit from ongoing support.
According its website, the center’s treatment team includes licensed social workers, Ph.D. and master’s level clinicians, licensed alcohol and drug counselors, nurses, and a spiritual counselor. WHAT STAFF SAY
The two staff members surveyed by Best-rehabs.com shared differing opinions of Harbor Hall and its offerings. K.S. gave the center’s treatment effectiveness two stars and described the center as “bottom of the barrel.” K.S. added, “They are all about money and not helping anyone.” The other anonymous staff member admitted that the center was “small” and “behind the times a bit,” but commended the facility for having a “good understanding of how specific issues in the area effect substance abuse.” This staffer awarded five stars for treatment effectiveness and the connectivity policy, but only two stars for holistic offerings and treatment of co-occurring disorders.
