ABOUT ST. MARY MERCY LIVONIA
Located in the community of Livonia, Mich., a suburb of Detroit, St. Mary Mercy is a full-service hospital that provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. For patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, the hospital offers on-site medical detoxification. St. Mary Mercy Livonia is part of the St. Joseph Mercy Health Network, which also includes St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Mich.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, patients participate in a multidisciplinary assessment, the findings of which aid clinicians in forming an individualized care plan. Clients with more serious conditions are typically referred to the inpatient program, which includes a period of medically-monitored detoxification. Once stabilized, patients participate in a curriculum that utilizes 12-step principles and a psychoeducational model of treatment.
The treatment team uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and facilitates counseling in individual, group, and family settings. The program’s psychoeducational groups address a wide variety of topics, including relapse triggers, anger management, stress reduction, and general life skills.
St. Mary Mercy Livonia’s intensive outpatient (IOP) program may be used as a step-down or standalone treatment. Like the center’s inpatient program, IOP uses a psychoeducational approach; patients split their time between group therapy and educational sessions geared toward relapse prevention. Group sessions are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Individuals who complete IOP and maintain 30 days of sobriety are welcome to attend the center’s Early Recovery Group (ERG), a support group designed for the first 90 days of recovery. The group meets weekly for a total of eight sessions.
