ABOUT MERIDIAN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH – CEDAR RIDGE MEN’S RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT
Cedar Ridge Treatment Center — one of more than a dozen residential and outpatient facilities operated by Meridian Behavioral Health (MBH) in Minnesota — offers drug and alcohol treatment for adult men, including clients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Set in the northeastern Twin Cities suburb of Stillwater, the facility provides on-site detoxification services and supports methadone maintenance for clients struggling with opiate dependence. Meridian specializes inand culturally aware programming. Among the agency’s other residential facilities are in Saint Paul, a residential center for adults identifying as LGBTQ; in Pine City; and for men and women in East Grand Forks.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Chemical health assessments, which are used to determine the best treatment option for each client, are available by appointment at any Meridian Behavioral Health outpatient facility, according to the MBH website.
The Cedar Ridge men’s treatment approach is trauma-informed andin nature, utilizing evidence-based one-on-one and group psychotherapy along with the consciousness, stress-reduction health realization model. Individualized treatment plans draw from an array of therapies including motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Residents participate in 12-step recovery meetings and receive life skills and anger management training. Medical services are also available to Cedar Ridge residents 24/7.
All Meridian residential programs feature multiple groups, including primary addiction-oriented groups and dual diagnosis groups for mental health. The treatment centers also encourage physical exercise.
Cedar Ridge Treatment Center for men, like all Meridian Behavioral Health facilities, employs licensed alcohol and drug counselors as well as mental health professionals and nurses. The MBH website indicates that treatment teams are designed to include diverse backgrounds.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Cedar Ridge Men’s Residential Treatment is housed in a sizable, cabin-like building situated on 40 acres of rolling woodlands in southeastern Minnesota. Website photographs feature sunny decks and a community garden and residents participate in varied off-site outings. Chores and leisure time are built into the men’s daily schedules.
All Meridian Behavioral Health residential facilities provide access to exercise equipment and smoking is allowed. The MBH website also indicates that alumni events are held regularly.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Feedback for Cedar Ridge Treatment Center from former clients was generally positive at the time of this writing. The one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com, Jason, indicated high satisfaction with the staff’s level of training and experience and the overall effectiveness of treatment; metrics measuring each received maximum five-star ratings. He highlighted the facility’s “fantastic non traditional approach” to treatment, although rating holistic offerings just one star. Family participation received three. Jason expressed significantly less satisfaction with accommodations at Cedar Ridge, granting one star for cleanliness and maintenance and two for meals and nutrition.
On Google, seven individuals contributed to an average rating of 4.6 out of five stars for Cedar Ridge. Comments tended to concur with Jason’s review regarding accommodations and staff. Although alum T.H. reported that “The accommodations at Cedar Ridge are not as advertised online,” and that it was not a “resort type of treatment center,” he also described dedicated counselors who went “above and beyond” to support men in recovery. In a representative review, R.K. agreed that the staff was “amazing.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two loved ones surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing had opposing views of Cedar Ridge. M.S. gave the facility a mostly positive review, awarding four stars for treatment effectiveness and counseling options, and five stars for treatment of co-occurring mental health disorders and the staff’s experience. They did note, however, that the program offered “very little family engagement.” Despite describing the rehab center’s atmosphere as “serene,” this loved one’s low to moderate ratings for accommodations were in line with alumni perspectives, in the two- to three-star range.
By contrast, B.N., the mother of a would-be client, criticized the admissions process at Cedar Ridge in a scathing review.
