ABOUT SPECIALIZED TREATMENT SERVICES, INC.
With four locations throughout Minnesota, Specialized Treatment Services, Inc. (STS) offers outpatient substance abuse treatment, along with medicated-assisted treatment via methadone and Buprenorphine for adults who are chemically dependent on opiates. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
All clients receive a comprehensive chemical health evaluation with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor upon intake. Typically, most assessments are completed within 24 to 48 hours.
According to its website, STS does not focus on one specific treatment model. Instead, they offer a variety of techniques and modalities that best suit each client. In addition to Methadone and Buprenorphine maintenance, the facility also offers day and evening outpatient treatment called Six Dimensions Counseling. The program includes group therapy and education on topics such as stress management, women’s issues, relapse prevention, living skills, career building, and family education.
Clients are also required to attend individual counseling once per week for the first 10 weeks of treatment. After this time and depending upon progress, meetings occur once per week.
The treatment team at STS includes a medical director, a physician and pharmacists, alongside registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, clinical supervisors, program directors, licensed alcohol and drug counselors, case managers, and paraprofessionals.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
One alum surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave STS a mixed review. They rated the facility four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its cleanliness, and its staff’s level of experience and training. “They get things done in a timely manner and our generally friendly,” they wrote. However, the anonymous alum also noted that the facility is highly understaffed and has too many clients, telling Best-rehabs.com: “It’s a very irresponsibly run place and the fact that they are not staffed better is terrible.”
STS fared far better on third-party sites. On Google, the facility received an average rating of 4.2 out of five stars based on 14 reviews to date. And on its Facebook page, which the organization can edit, STS received an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on 19 reviews. In comments, positive reviewers praised the staff as compassionate and helpful, with alum Todd writing: “Best methadone clinic in town! Carrie is passionate about her work as a harm reduction specialist and has been able to pursue her dream to open additional clinics.”
A few vocal negative reviewers did write that STS did not tailor its treatment well enough to different addictions.
According to, STS accepts state insurance other than Medicaid and Access to Recovery vouchers.
