ABOUT REDISCOVER – CATHERINE’S PLACE
Located in Kansas City, Mo. and established in 1969, ReDiscover is a nonprofit community mental health facility that offers services for Missouri residents with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. The nonprofit operates Catherine’s Place, which provides intensive residential treatment and outpatient services for addicted pregnant women and women with children, as well as mothers with co-occurring disorders.
Women living at Catherine’s Place receive comprehensive substance abuse treatment through a separate ReDiscover facility in the city. Detox services are not offered on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, women residing at Catherine’s Place partake in ReDiscover’s Women with Children program, one of just a few in the state that allows children to stay with their mothers during residential treatment.
Women entering residential treatment through ReDiscover stay in Friendship House, a separate home in Kansas City, for the first 28 days and then transfer to Catherine’s House for the remainder of treatment.
Treatment plans are individualized. Plans are designed to facilitate recovery and offer social supports to strengthen mother-child relationships. Programming includes comprehensive assessment, psychiatric evaluation, individual and group therapy, medication management, as well as case management services.
Lifestyle intervention, parenting classes, and family counseling are also offered.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s website notes the treatment team includes psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, substance abuse counselors, mental health professionals, chemical dependency technicians, childcare providers, and intake specialists.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility’s website indicates the treatment center is set in an impressive English Tudor home, Catherine’s Place has eight comfortable bedrooms, on-site laundry, and a full-service kitchen, plus a designated area for childcare with an outdoor playground. There is also private space for individualized counseling and organized group counseling. On-site daycare services, as well as transportation, are available to all residents of Catherine’s Place.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the five alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing. four provided positive feedback, and one left a neutral review.
The four alumni who left positive feedback gave four and five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. Alumni praised the center’s individual and group therapy, accommodations and amenities as well as staff support.
“They really care about your recovery,” D.S. wrote. “Process groups is a place where you can talk about anything and not be judged or will what you talk about leave the group.”
While alumni reviews were mostly positive, one anonymous alum commented the program was “disorgani zed,” while another complained about the discharge process.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two loved ones surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided mostly positive feedback.
When asked, on a scale of one to five, whether they would recommend the facility, the loved ones responded with four and five star ratings. Both loved ones indicated treatment was very effective, but gave holistic options at this facility two and three out of five star ratings.
“It is wonderful for anyone who needs immediate help,” a loved one wrote. “They were excellent and timely in getting my loved one in the program quickly, without insurance. However, it is loosely supervised, and may not be right for a person who is needing closely supervised detox and long-term treatment.”
FINANCING
According to ReDiscover’s website, the facility accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance plans. Sliding scale fees are also offered to those who qualify.
