ABOUT LINCOLN TREATMENT CENTER

Located in the capital city of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lincoln Treatment Center provides specialized, outpatient-based treatment for adults recovering from opioid dependency. One of 11 locations operated by Riverwood Group, LLC through seven states, Lincoln Treatment Center offers a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) regimen, as well as outpatient-based counseling sessions.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before beginning treatment, clinicians perform an initial substance abuse history assessment and physical evaluation to determine an effective MAT dosage and ensure the outpatient-based program is an appropriate level of care. Lincoln Treatment Center utilizes methadone, an evidence-based addiction medication, to treat its clientele. Methadone is an opioid agonist that is proven-effective at alleviating the physical discomfort associated with opioid withdrawal, as well as curbing opioid cravings.

At the onset of treatment, clients must receive their medication daily from the Lincoln Treatment Center, except for Sundays which are covered by a take-home medication. However, as the client progresses in their treatment, the individual receives additional take-home medications and is required to visit the center less frequently.

In addition to the methadone regimen, which addresses the physical aspect of opioid dependency, Lincoln Treatment Center also facilitates clinician-led group, individual, and family counseling sessions to address the emotional and psychological contributors of addiction. Through these counseling sessions, clients may learn new coping techniques, methods for trigger avoidance, stress management skills, methods for regulating emotions, and how to develop community-based support networks.

Throughout treatment, clients are required to attend the scheduled counseling sessions and submit to random drug testing, as required by federal regulations. To follow the progress of each client, individuals are reassessed every 90 days and undergo a physical evaluation once per year. Clinicians may progressively taper-off clients of the methadone regimen as they progress in the program. Although there is no specific time-table for the program, Lincoln Treatment Center’s website states that most methadone programs lasts between two and three years, though some individuals may complete the program within a few months.

  • The program I entered was a partial hospitalization program, meaning that I was at the program 8 hours a day. I still used my own housing and provided my own meals, which was appropriate for my situation. The facility also has full-time care, but I didn't see what they were like.
