The Hamilton, N.J.-based facility offers family-centric treatment options for adults, including a standard and intensive outpatient program (IOP), as well as a partial hospitalization program (PHP). This center is one of the 148 (39.9 percent) New Jersey treatment facilities to provide specifically-tailored programming for young adults. Detox is not available.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Approaching recovery as “a journey and not a destiny,” Footprints to Recovery considers a variety of factors — biological, familial, social, psychological, and physical — to address each client’s unique treatment needs, according to the center’s website. Outpatient treatment is designed to provide adults with scheduling flexibility to facilitate upkeep with ongoing life commitments.
With treatment rooted in 12-step principles, comprehensive outpatient treatment incorporates a range of evidence-based modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), didactic group therapy, and motivational interviewing (MI). Beyond one-on-one counseling and group therapy sessions, clients learn the meaning of “sober living” and partake in life skills and relapse prevention trainings. As an alternative to medication — which the facility administers when necessary — holistic opportunities include yoga, massage, and acupuncture.
According to the center’s website, family involvement is also seen as a crucial component to a successful recovery. Accordingly, Footprints arranges for both individual and group family sessions where families focus on repairing broken relationships and learn about the addiction and recovery processes.
Prior to completing their outpatient treatment, clients work alongside their counselors to develop detailed aftercare plans comprised of local 12-step meetings, identifying potential triggers, and addressing co-occurring disorders.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
According to the center’s website, the treatment team is led by a clinical director with more than 16 years of experience in addiction treatment. The team consists of a physician, registered nurses, a licensed certified alcohol and drug counselor (LCADC), substance abuse counselors/CADC interns, and other administrative efforts. In the state of New Jersey, 96 percent of all substance abuse treatment centers have continuing education requirements for staff.
