ABOUT SAINT CHARLES HOSPITAL: DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHAB
Located in Port Jefferson, N.Y., situated on the northern end of Long Island, Saint Charles Hospital provides a range of treatment services for adults struggling with chemical dependency, as well as co-occurring mental health concerns, including crisis intervention and short-term inpatient care. In addition, Saint Charles Hospital provides medical detoxification services for both adults and adolescents (ages 13 to 18).
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, patients undergo an initial medical evaluation and behavioral health assessment. If detoxification is medically necessary, patients will be referred to the 10-bed detoxification unit, where they’ll receive 24-hour medically monitored evaluation and treatment. Patients receive evidence-based medications, such as Suboxone (for opioid dependency), to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal.
After detoxification, adults may be encouraged to transition into Saint Charles Hospital’s short-term inpatient program, while clinicians may provide adolescents with linkages to an appropriate treatment program to continue treatment. As a hospital-based inpatient program, the goal of treatment is to rapidly stabilize the patient and refer them to a less-intensive level of care. To assist patients in early recovery, the hospital’s Drug and Alcohol Rehab program blends evidence-based methods with 12-step facilitation and guidance.
During inpatient treatment, patients participate in group psychotherapy to help individuals identify and process any underlying factors that may contribute to addictive behavior. Patients who indicated co-occurring mental health difficulties may also receive ongoing psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
In addition to counseling sessions, the Drug and Alcohol Rehab inpatient program incorporates educational workshops on a range of topics to help patients maintain sobriety, such as improving self-esteem, learning coping techniques, and developing life skills. Patients are also introduced to the principles and practices of the 12-step model of recovery. Patients may be required to complete assignments to help guide them through workshops and the 12-step process.
Once a patient is discharged, clinicians of Drug and Alcohol Rehab provide linkages and referrals to support services patients may utilize as they transition back into the community. This may be assistance locating 12-step meetings, outpatient programs, and other community-based resources.
