ABOUT VILLA VERITAS FOUNDATION, INC. IN KERHONKSON, NY
Villa Veritas Foundation Inc., located in Kerhonkson, N.Y., offers residential treatment to men, women and seniors struggling with substance abuse. The facility was founded almost 40 years ago by James and Suzanne Cusack. The Cusacks were given the land for the facility by The Dominican Sisters of Amityville for the purpose of helping alcoholics. Villa Veritas is a faith-based non-profit and has worked with over 10,000 clients to date.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To be admitted, clients should call or email the facility directly. The length of treatment varies by client and is based on the needs of each individual. Treatment at Villa Veritas is gender specific; men and women live in separate residences and attend different therapy groups.

The facility’s treatment program follows the 12-Step method of recovery and is based in the Christian faith. Throughout treatment, clients receive individual counseling, group therapy, educational lectures, and nutritious food. The women’s treatment program also offers a creative arts workshop, allowing clients to sketch, paint, collage, knit and crochet. A fitness program that includes walking, swimming, and yoga is also available to clients.
Families are invited to participate in the treatment program through a weekly one-day family program. The family program involves an orientation session, education, group sharing, and individual and couples counseling.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
There is currently limited information provided by Villa Veritas regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. However, the organization’s website states that the facility is located on “100 acres of beautiful rural countryside.” The facility is equipped with a gym and other recreational activities for clients to enjoy such as puzzles, board games, and arts and crafts materials.
Visitation with a maximum of two immediate family members is allowed for three hours each Sunday. Family members who would like to visit are required to attend the family program before doing so.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the four alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at time of writing, three of the four wrote that they would recommend the facility to others seeking treatment.
In terms of their actual ratings, alumni feedback was mixed. One alum gave Villa Veritas poor marks in most categories, but rated the facility highly for family participation and staff experience/training. He said that although the counseling was good, the facility was “outdated.” Another alum wrote that the treatment didn’t work for them, but recommended several aspects of the facility regardless.
Another reviewer disagreed with those opinions and gave Villa Veritas excellent ratings. He said he felt he was given the proper tools for recovery and did not relapse after treatment. That alum called his time at the facility a “life changing experience,” and wrote, “The staff created an environment to motivate all people to participate which allows for positive outcomes!”

At the time of this writing there have been five friends or family members of clients polled by Best-rehabs.com. The reviewers gave Villa Veritas excellent ratings, and all five of them said they would recommend it to others.
The anonymous loved ones gave the facility four and five out of five stars for staff experience and support, four and five stars for cleanliness, and three, four, and five stars for family involvement. When asked about strengths of Villa Veritas, one loved one praised the counseling staff, and another called the facility “one of the best.” One loved one commented, “I love that the family is brought into the treatment of the patient.”
When asked how the facility could improve, one reviewer said he felt rehabilitation facilities are “too expensive for long term treatment” and another said the amenities were lacking.
WHAT STAFF SAY
At the time of this writing, there have been two former staff members polled by Best-rehabs.com. The reviewers gave Villa Veritas excellent marks across several different metrics and said they would recommend the facility to a friend or loved one considering rehab. They also said they would consider entering the facility themselves if they were ever in need of treatment.
On a scale of one to five stars, both former staff members gave the facility five stars when asked if leadership at the facility is willing to put clients’ interests first. They also gave five-star ratings when asked to rate the experience of the management team and when asked if facility leadership is able to inspire loyalty and a sense of community among clients.
When asked about the strengths of the facility, one employee wrote “Firm fair and consistent dealing with the 12 Steps of AA.” She also wrote, “Spiritually based 12 Step program everyone is equal where paying or scholarship.”
