ABOUT ANUVIA PREVENTION AND RECOVERY CENTER

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center has provided substance abuse treatment services since 1958. The organization is a nonprofit that serves adults and adolescents through a variety of programs, including detoxification, residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and standard outpatient care (OP). DWI education and intervention services are also available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients begin their treatment with a comprehensive assessment that includes a questionnaire, interview, and, in some cases, drug screening. Assessments can be specialized for adolescents and Spanish speakers. Based on assessment findings, adults over the age of 18 may begin their stay with a period of social (non-medicated) detox.

Once stabilized, clients may transition to residential care, which includes an introduction to the 12-step model of recovery, group and individual counseling, drug and alcohol education, and family counseling. The duration of treatment varies, but clients may remain on-site for up to 28 days.

IOP care is available as a step-down from residential treatment or as a stand-alone treatment for individuals who do not require the structure or intensity of inpatient treatment. Programming is heavily dependent upon group counseling, and participants meet three times a week for 12 weeks.

Standard outpatient care is less time-intensive; clients complete between 20 and 40 hours of programming. Additionally, age-appropriate outpatient plans are available for youth ages 12 to 17 and Spanish speakers. Anuvia is one of 37 percent of facilities in North Carolina offering services in a non-English language (page 137).

During treatment, clients develop individualized aftercare plans with counselors. In aftercare, clients meet once per week for four to six weeks, with optional morning or evening hours.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to Anuvia’s website, the organization is overseen by a board of directors, and the clinical team is comprised of licensed substance abuse professionals and licensed care social workers, many of whom speak Spanish.
