Nestled amidst North Carolina’s majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, Hebron Colony Ministries is one of the oldest and most established residential treatment centers for chemically-dependent men struggling with substance abuse. Hebron Colony operates under the belief that addiction is an affliction that is physical, mental, and spiritual in nature, and it is through the word of Christ that individuals may be restored to achieve their full potential. Students battling addiction are invited to attend Hebron Colony free of charge for up to ten weeks, during which time they will be provided food, shelter, addiction counseling, scripture-based education, and more.
ABOUT HEBRON COLONY MINISTRIES
Hebron Colony Ministries, a charitable, non-profit interdenominational facility located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, offers Christian-based residential substance abuse treatment for men. According to a 2016 SAHMSA survey, the facility is one of 208 facilities offering treatment tailored the adult men. Medical detox is not available on-site; clients must be fully detoxed prior to admission and physically capable of performing daily tasks. The organization also operates a facility for women – Grace Home – in Santee, S.C.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Rather than viewing addiction as a disease, the organization considers chemical dependency a symptom of deeper problems, including shame, guilt, and sinful lifestyles. Although a Christian-based treatment program, the facility states that it accepts those of other faiths and non-religious individuals. The facility’s website states: “Hebron is not interested in giving people more religion; instead, we teach people how to walk in a personal relationship with Christ and begin to learn how to apply God’s principles in their everyday lives.
The program is based on scriptural principles set forth in the Bible. Main treatment activities include Bible study, small group discussions, and individual counseling with pastors and staff. In addition to its faith-based programming, clients may also also complete chores on the facility’s grounds, participate in work-therapy through the facility’s thrift store, and participate in recreational activities. In addition, residents enjoy free time for meditation and reflection. The residential program lasts for 10 weeks.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team, which has no medical professionals, primarily consists of pastors and ministers.
