ABOUT ASHEVILLE COUNSELING CENTER

Located in the picturesque mountain community of Asheville, N.C., Asheville Counseling Center provides outpatient-based counseling services for adults, adolescents, and children struggling with chemical dependency, mental health concerns, and co-occurring disorders. The facility also specializes in treating individuals with sexual orientation-related concerns, making the facility among the 21.4 percent of N.C. facilities to provide specialized programming for the LGBT community.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon intake, clients may undergo an initial substance abuse assessment and/or psychological screening to identify the factors that are contributing to behavioral and mental health concerns. To help clients overcome their difficulties, Asheville Counseling Center facilitates individual, group, couples, and family counseling sessions.

Asheville Counseling Center utilizes a number of modalities. In particular, the facility engages clients in motivational interviewing (MI) to help them set obtainable goals, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to identify the links between irrational thinking patterns and maladaptive behavior. Through counseling sessions, clients learn how to manage stress, improve impulse control, and implement coping strategies.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is another form of treatment used. It employs simple finger tapping on certain points on the body, typically near the face and chest, to reduce distress.

Along with services focused on chemical dependency, the facility specializes in treating anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, and co-occurring difficulties. In addition, family and couple counseling sessions focus on codependency, relationship issues, parenting, domestic abuse, and family conflict.
