ABOUT TWO DREAMS OUTER BANKS
Two Dreams Outer Banks is an abstinence-based residential rehabilitation for adults dealing with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Two Dreams, located off the coast of North Carolina, operates two other locations: one in Chicago, and one in New Orleans.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment, which begins with a pre-admission assessment, is divided into three categories: “The Three Phases, The Seven Dimensions, and The Three Outcomes.” Two Dreams Outer Banks blends evidence-based practices with holistic programming that includes art therapy, mindfulness meditation, and nutrition planning.
Detoxification services aren’t available on-site, though the center redirects individuals to other detox facilities.
A minimum stay of 28-days is required, though clients stay an average of 90 days. Clients will spend each day participating in physical activities, therapy groups, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The team at Two Dreams is led by an internationally renowned physician who was a former president of the American Addiction Society of Medicine. Two Dreams also employs a board-certified psychiatrist with 30 years of experience, case managers, and therapists. Two Dreams boasts a 2:1 staff to client ratio.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The beach house can accommodate 10 clients who can enjoy private rooms with en suite bathrooms. Two Dreams also has a fully equipped kitchen, living room, outdoor deck, and a swimming pool. Clients can use on-site exercise and workout facilities. Clients can take advantage of the coastal location with kayaking, surfing, and beach walks. The facility works with Wild Horse Adventure Tours for equestrian outings.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Responses from alumni were split, with some complaining of ineffective treatment and dirty accommodations and others praising staff.
K.L. warned others to stay away from Two Dreams. “Two Dreams does not offer individualized treatment. In fact, they are grossly understaffed,” they complained. “The facility itself is dirty, amenities are non-existent and the entire program was disorganized.” Alum K.H. added: “They are greatly overpriced for what they offer.”
“I stayed for three months and the care there has totally changed my life,” commented A.A.H. “I very much enjoyed the one to one and group therapy sessions, even thought they were at times very emotional too.” C.W.L. also reported a positive experience: “My stay at Two Dreams is an experience that has changed my life for the better and is something I never wish to forget.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The six reviews received from loved ones were mixed.
M.J.S. wrote that Two Dreams worked with families well and that they had a “wonderful experience.” Parent C.L. also lauded the facility they worked with for a year and a half. “They have saved his life and bent over backwards to work with our family…I thank god everyday for two dreams giving my son a new direction,” they wrote.
Two individuals complained of abrupt departures for their loved ones. Parent, E.K.M.F. commented:”Two Dreams wants to find an excuse to abruptly discharge a client they will. No genuine regard for my son’s overall health.” Another anonymous parent complained: “Even though they ‘claim’ to be for dual diagnoses, they were stumped with some of my child’s behaviors.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Staff members gave positive feedback regarding the facility’s services. “When a client really takes the program serious I have seen amazing changes and have heard of great sucess,” commented D.P. “I think the group setting really helps those that feel alone or indifferent in life bond and get positive reinforcement from each other as well as through staff.”
M.C., who has worked at Two Dreams for more than six years, wrote that the “staff cares deeply for each individual person that comes through our doors.” “We are a team that works together to ensure that our clients get the individual care they deserve,” they praised. “The setting creates a special kind of peace and serenity that is important to health, wellness and recovery.”
FINANCING
As a private-pay facility, Two Dreams is not in-network with insurance providers, through its website notes that staff will work with insurance companies. Financial assistance is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and there is a cash discount available.
