ABOUT GATEWAY REHAB – SQUIRREL HILL
Gateway Rehab, a non-profit organization that operates 22 facilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio, offers a continuum of addiction services for adolescents and adults. Located in a residential neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pa., Gateway Rehab Squirrel Hill provides specialized, age- and gender-specific intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for individuals struggling with substance abuse. The Squirrel Hill location does not offer on-site detoxification.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Gateway Rehab Squirrel Hill tailors treatment to its clients. To start, participants undergo a substance abuse assessment for clinicians to form an individualized care plan. The facility offers specialized programs for adolescents and young adults ages 13 to 25, adults over 40, and gender-specific tracks for all ages.
The program combines 12-Step immersion with evidence-based treatment methods, specifically cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Clients also participate in individual counseling and small group sessions. Counseling is designed to address underlying issues of addiction and modify destructive behavior patterns. Relapse prevention and coping skills also are integral in the recovery process.
Along with counseling and educational sessions, the program incorporates Twelve-Step Facilitation (TSF), which is a manual-guided model of treatment that introduces clients to 12-Step principles and practices and connects them to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Clients attend 12-Step meetings, learn 12-Step tools of recovery, familiarize themselves with program literature, and perform “step work.” Although Gateway Rehab strongly recommends 12-Step involvement, alternative curricula may be available to clients who prefer not to participate in this model of recovery.
The facility also offers a regimen of medication-assisted therapy (e.g., Suboxone and Vivitrol) to coincide with core programming. Morning and evening sessions are available five days a week to accommodate client schedules. Upon successful completion, Gateway Rehab invites clients to remain active in the alumni association, and the treatment network has introduced its own addiction recovery mobile app, 12:01.
