ABOUT GAUDENZIA
Operating over 90 facilities throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, Gaudenzia Addiction Treatment & Recovery is a large, nonprofit treatment network that offers a full continuum of programs for adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. According to HealthGrove, the center’s location in the greater Harrisburg, Pa., area offers short-term residential treatment, on-site detox, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for clients struggling with symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, Gaudenzia’s residential programs utilize a therapeutic community model of recovery. This recovery approach provides a structured schedule of therapeutic activities designed to modify destructive thinking patterns and behaviors, as well as provide clients education and resources that assist in relapse prevention. Both clients and staff play equal roles as agents of change in the community.
Typically, therapeutic communities’ core programming consists of group and individual counseling, recreational therapy, and educational classes that address coping techniques and basic life skills training. Additionally, the program may offer vocational training and referrals to community-based resources. Most therapeutic community models also introduce clients to self-help fellowships, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
