ABOUT THE GATE HOUSE FOR MEN
Founded in 1972, non-profit The Gate House offers an array of drug and alcohol treatment services, including residential, outpatient, and sober living programs for men and women. Just outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Gate House for Men operates a residential program exclusively for men with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Detoxification services are not offered through The Gate House. The facility is among the 45.6 percent of facilities in the state to offer specialized programming for men.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The Gate House adheres to the belief that addiction is a chronic disease. Upon intake, clients receive a biopsychosocial assessment and an individualized treatment plan is determined.
Treatment is gender-specific and based on the 12-step model of recovery in combination with evidence-based methods such as “readiness to change” and motivational interviewing. The residential treatment program lasts three to six months and addresses barriers to recovery, as well as introduces clients to 12-step principles.
Clients in the residential program move through three phases. Phase one focuses on underlying barriers to recovery through individual, group, and family therapy, daily 12-step meetings, and peer groups. Phase two focuses on establishing employment and community supports while in phase three, clients implement the skills they’ve learned.
In addition to more traditional forms of therapy, vocational counseling and employment readiness, life skills education, health and nutrition education are provided to help clients succeed. Referrals to psychiatric services and spiritual counseling are available as needed.
Clients may transition to gender-specific recovery residences managed by The Gate House, which allow residents to live in a structured environment for up to a year and attend 12-step meetings in the community.
Comprehensive discharge planning encompasses relapse prevention, housing, budgeting, outpatient programming, and support. Follow-up services such as ongoing case management and aftercare are available to alumni who complete the treatment program.
