The Gate House For Men

ABOUT THE GATE HOUSE FOR MEN

Founded in 1972, the non-profit organization known as The Gate House provides a range of drug and alcohol treatment services. These services include residential, outpatient, and sober living programs specifically designed for men and women. The Gate House for Men, located just outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, operates an exclusive residential program for men with addiction and co-occurring disorders. It’s worth noting that The Gate House does not offer detoxification services. Separating itself from the majority of facilities in Pennsylvania, The Gate House is among the 45.6 percent that offers specialized programming for men.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Gate House follows the belief that addiction is a chronic disease. Upon intake, clients undergo a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment in order to determine an individualized treatment plan.

The treatment approach at The Gate House is gender-specific and based on the 12-step model of recovery, as well as evidence-based methods such as “readiness to change” and motivational interviewing. The residential treatment program, lasting three to six months, addresses the barriers to recovery and introduces clients to 12-step principles.

Clients in the residential program progress through three phases. The first phase focuses on identifying and addressing underlying barriers to recovery through individual, group, and family therapy, daily 12-step meetings, and peer groups. In the second phase, clients work on establishing employment and community supports. In the third and final phase, clients implement the skills they have learned throughout their treatment journey.

In addition to traditional therapy, The Gate House provides vocational counseling, employment readiness training, life skills education, and health and nutrition education to promote success in recovery. Referrals to psychiatric services and spiritual counseling are also available as needed.

After completing the residential program, clients may transition to gender-specific recovery residences operated by The Gate House. These residences offer a structured environment for up to a year, allowing residents to attend 12-step meetings in the community.

Comprehensive discharge planning is a priority, encompassing relapse prevention, housing, budgeting, outpatient programming, and ongoing support. Alumni who complete the treatment program have access to follow-up services, including ongoing case management and aftercare.
