An affiliate of Millwood Hospital, the Excel Center – Fort Worth, Texas, offers specialized outpatient-based treatment services for children and teenagers who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems and/or struggling with substance abuse.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Excel Center – Fort Worth provides free assessments Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pending the outcome of this process, children and teens ages five to 18 years may qualify for treatment. The services offered – Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – are considered, according to the facility’s website, a “middle step” for youth transitioning from inpatient treatment or as an option for those who are not benefiting from traditional outpatient care.
Referred to by Excel Center – Fort Worth as “day treatment,” the PHP delivers four hours of daily group therapy, consisting of process groups and coping skills education. The curriculum also includes family therapy, individualized treatment with a psychiatrist;, medication management, and clinical case management. The IOP offers three hours of daily group therapy and variations of the PHP elements. Both programs operate from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On average, patients stay for three to four weeks, but discharge depends on their progress.
Upon admission, a child is assigned a therapist/case manager, nurse, and psychiatrist. Each participant attends an appropriate age-related group in their program. When attending the PHP or IOP, the child also will be enrolled in the Excel Center – Forth Worth charter school during treatment and receive free transportation within a 25 mile radius of the facility.
The organization also operates a one-day First Offender Program for juveniles for truancy, tobacco, and curfew violations, and anger management issues. The course is $100.

The loved one surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing submitted a mostly positive review, giving Excel Center – Fort Worth four out of five stars for recommending it to others. They offered the same four-star rating for connectivity and the staff’s experience and training, and the highest five-star rating for cleanliness. This reviewer listed “unity of staff, clean surroundings, concern for patient” as strengths, but noted “variety of diet poor choices, security not always alert.” And they warned that “some patients seem able to fool counselors .effort IS put into understanding patient needs but is short of preparation for life outside facility.”
Eight Google reviewers (mostly loved ones, few alumni) who left feedback about Excel Center – Fort Worth at the time of this writing provided an average of 2.2 out of five stars. Two loved ones offered positive reviews, such as Stephanie, a five-star reviewer, who wrote: “My grandson loved going to this outpatient program. I was always informed of changes and/or situations by the school and transportation.” And loved one Amanda, a four-star reviewer, commented: “It’s a great place for helping with addiction, anger, anxiety, etc. Although the treatment could have been better, the Excel Center’s treatment was overall helpful.”
However, others had negative experiences, such as a parent who only gave one star and wrote: “My daughter was enrolled for 2 weeks and was offered Zoloft within 2 days of entering their facility. They didn’t even try to come up with a therapeutic coping plan or anything before taking this approach.” Carol, a one-star reviewer and alumnus who commented: “I came here when I was in 4th grade and I am now 17 years old and still scarred from this place,” referred to a rude and threatening incident with a staff member.
