Sundance Behavioral Healthcare System, located in Arlington, Texas, offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with mental health and substance abuse. The facility is a private psychiatric hospital located twenty five minutes outside of Dallas/Ft. Worth.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s treatment program consists of therapeutic intervention and medication management. Treatment centers around group therapy for both the inpatient and outpatient programs. Sundance Behavioral Healthcare System offers free psychosocial assessments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There are many kinds of group therapy offered, including interpersonal process groups, psycho-educational groups, life enrichment groups, skills groups, recreation groups, art/music therapy groups, faith-based groups, addiction recovery/substance abuse groups, and animal assisted therapy groups. Most clients in the inpatient program remain in treatment for eight to twelve days.

The outpatient program offers group therapy five days a week. Clients who have previously participated in the inpatient program are able to attend outpatient therapy groups as they transition. Both the adult program and the child/adolescent program are four to six weeks long. Individuals between the ages of five and seventeen are eligible to participate in the child/adolescent program.

One alum wrote an overwhelmingly positive review of Sundance Behavioral Healthcare System, and the other alum reported having a very bad experience. The first reviewer gave the facility five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals & nutrition. That alum agreed that the facility is adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems and that facility staff are experienced and well-trained. When asked about strengths of the facility, this anonymous alum mentioned the staff. However that same reviewer felt that the facility could improve upon their laundry facilities. The alum also said, “it helped a lot with understanding myself.”

The other alum who was polled by Best-rehabs.com gave the facility two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, two stars for accommodations and amenities, and one star for meals & nutrition. This anonymous alum stated he would not recommend the facility to friends and family considering treatment, would not considering re-entering the facility in the future, and does not believe the treatment he received was worth the cost. He added additional commentary, saying, “I felt isolated…we could not go outside…I felt like I was in a prison.”

At the time of this writing there have been two friends and family members polled by Best-rehabs.com. One reviewer had positive things to say about the facility, and the other gave a mixed review. The anonymous loved ones gave the facility four and three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, respectively. They gave four and five stars for accommodations and amenities and meals and nutrition. The first reviewer agreed that there are many counseling options to choose from. He strongly agreed that the facility is adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring conditions and that facility staff are experienced and well-trained. He mentioned the “awesome” staff and “really nice facilities” when asked about strengths of the facility.

The other reviewer, a former spouse of a client, said that she was not sure if her ex-husband benefitted from the program, but that she would recommend it to others. She stated that her loved one had needed a place that offered a longer stay than Sundance, and that she believed it was “not as specific as needed” for her loved one.

  • Patients should be charged different amounts depending upon length of stay instead of one price no matter what. You should be able to go outside and walk around, even prisoners get to go out once a day. The nurses did not take the time to get to know you. There was only one nurse distributing pills, so it took a long time and sometimes the last people would not go to bed until midnight. The food was basically fatty instead of a good diet like I thought they would have.

  • the staff was good, the laundry facilities not so much; by being in there with people who had different problems and with similar experiences and different adult age groups it helped a lot with understanding myself
