Located in Lynchburg, Virginia, Horizon Wellness Center is one of 13 facilities operated by Horizon Behavioral Health. It provides short-term inpatient and outpatient-based levels of care. Additionally, if necessary, Horizon Wellness Center offers on-site medical detoxification services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients undergo a comprehensive mental health and substance abuse diagnostic evaluation. This helps clinicians determine an appropriate level of treatment and form an individualized treatment plan. If a client requires detoxification and/or psychiatric stabilization, they may be referred to the wellness center’s residential program. The residential program lasts no longer than 15 days and aims to quickly stabilize the client through medical detoxification, pharmacological intervention (if necessary), and therapeutic programming. The goal is to then refer the client to a less-intensive level of care.
During residential treatment, clients participate in a highly structured schedule of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Specialized counseling sessions address a range of topics relevant to clientele, including trauma, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and other behavioral and mental health issues. Clients may also attend psychosocial educational classes on coping skills, relapse prevention, and mindfulness training.
For individuals struggling with chemical dependency, medication-assisted therapy (MAT) may be utilized to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal and help curb cravings. Dually diagnosed individuals and clients with a primary psychiatric disorder receive ongoing psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Once a client is stable, they may be encouraged to utilize the wellness center’s outpatient-based services to promote sustained recovery. On an outpatient basis, Horizon Wellness Center of Lynchburg facilitates group, individual, and family counseling sessions. Along with specialized mental health and substance abuse groups, the wellness center offers a 12-week outpatient program called Project Link, specifically designed for pregnant and postpartum women. Additionally, Horizon Wellness Center provides comprehensive case management services, which may include referrals to community-based resources, sober and supportive housing, vocational training, and longer-term programs.
