ABOUT ALTERNATIVE COUNSELING
Located in a business park 15 miles southeast of central Seattle, Alternative Counseling offers outpatient counseling services for individuals facing various mental health and behavioral disorders, including substance use disorder. Please note that medical detoxification is not available on-site.
Alternative Counseling stands out as one of only 16 facilities in Washington State that provides language services in Russian, in addition to Spanish and Native American/Alaska Native languages.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The duration of treatment at Alternative Counseling is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. The center offers flexible scheduling, with appointments available on evenings and weekends.
Treatment options for chemical dependency include an intensive outpatient program (IOP), general outpatient care, relapse prevention programs, DUI programming, and marijuana awareness classes. Additionally, the center provides anger-management treatment, as well as mental health and family counseling services.
Treatment is offered in individual, group, couples, and family settings. Alternative Counseling focuses on evidence-based treatments, particularly behavioral treatments, which aim to modify or change learned behaviors. In the event that the center does not provide the specific services required, or if further treatment is needed after graduation, the center can provide referrals to community resources.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The staff at Alternative Counseling is comprised of chemical dependency professionals and trainees, some of whom hold master’s level education. According to the sole individual polled by Best-rehabs.com, the facility received a five-star rating for the counselors’ level of training.

The single individual polled by Best-rehabs.com shared an appraisal stating, “Awesome!” They rated the facility five stars for the overall quality of individual and group counseling and the level of staff support provided.
Secondary review sites currently reflect mostly positive feedback. Google and Yelp have received four five-star ratings and one one-star rating. The only negative reviewer cited concerns regarding billing practices. Out of the four positive reviewers, only two provided comments along with their ratings. One Google reviewer wrote, “This facility has helped many clients over the years. Good people,” while a Yelp reviewer added, “I am very happy with Alternative Counseling in Kent Washington.”
FINANCING
Alternative Counseling accepts most private insurance plans on an out-of-network basis and is in-network with Premera and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The center also accommodates self-pay clients and offers payment plans, as well as potential case-by-case discounts.
