ABOUT FAIRMONT REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Located in Fairmont, W.Va., the Fairmont Regional Medical Center (FRMC) provides a full range of medical services, including psychiatric, emergency, oncological, and orthopedic care. The center’s psychiatry unit provides inpatient and outpatient treatment to adults struggling with co-occurring disorders and primary mental health conditions.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, psychiatric treatment at FRMC is primarily designed to help adults with depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders. Depending on their needs, patients may be prescribed treatment regimens that entail evaluation, counseling, medication management, and neuro-psychological services.

Specialized inpatient geriatric psychiatry treatment, geared specifically for adults aged 55 and older, addresses common psychiatric issues such as Alzheimer’s Disease. In programming, clients are met with crisis interventions, family consultations, and rehabilitative interventions.

Though FRMC does not provide information specific to substance misuse and addiction treatment, two individuals surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date gave positive ratings of nearly all aspects of treatment evaluated. Categories evaluated included holistic treatment, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring substance abuse disorders, among others.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Per FRMC’s website, the hospital staffs more than 700 physicians, nurses, and other trained professionals. However, the website does not specify which of these staff members work in the psychiatric unit.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

FRMC’s primary psychiatric inpatient facility has 34 beds while their geriatric unit has 18 beds. Though there is currently no further information provided by the hospital regarding facilities, the two individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave three and five out of five stars respectively for accommodations and amenities. Both reviewers gave high ratings (four or five stars) for the facility’s cleanliness as well as exercise and leisure options.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single anonymous alum surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave a positive review of FRMC’s psychiatric care. In particular, they gave four or five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience, treatment effectiveness, the center’s treatment of co-occurring disorders, and counseling options. “The staff treated me well,” the alum wrote. The sole category that did not receive high marks was family participation, which the reviewer rated three out of five stars.

On Google, 27 reviewers mostly offered negative feedback of FRMC, offering an average rating of 2.2 out of five stars, though reviewers did not indicate if their reviews were specifically regarding psychiatric care.[1]

Negative feedback tended to focus on the staff, cleanliness of facilities, and treatment effectiveness. One representative reviewer, Rachel, wrote: “So rude…honestly, save yourself from going here because no one deserves this bad of care or service.” Though most reviews were negative, seven alumni on Google did offer positive ratings. In contrast to negative reviews, these alumni gave positive reviews of staff and treatment effectiveness. However, they tended to agree with negative reviewers that the facilities were generally not well maintained.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The lone loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. The only category that did not receive high marks was meals and nutrition, which the reviewer rated three out of five stars.
