Founded more than 40 years ago, Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare (MLBHC) offers residential and outpatient treatment for mental health disorders and problematic substance use at six mental health and addiction treatment facilities in Alabama. Residential substance use treatment is available at MLBHC’s Guntersville location. The Woodville facility, one of three centers in Jackson County, provides outpatient care for a range of mental and behavioral health disorders; elsewhere in Jackson County, there’s a facility in Dutton. Though MLBHC does provide residential care, though it’s unclear whether these services are available at the Woodville location.


MLBHC’s primary substance use treatment is a residential program for men and women offered at the facility in Guntersville (link above). Priority service for residential treatment is given to pregnant women.

Outpatient treatment, available at the Woodville facility, uses a mix of therapy, education, and, when appropriate, medication. Counseling is offered in individual, group, and family settings, and the center also provides education and support for families, case management services, and life skills training, plus evaluations (including psychiatric evaluations) and referrals. When treating children, the facility is able to help families work together with the child’s teacher, school counselor, and/or pediatrician. A (non-substance-use-specific) residential program adds, to these outpatient offerings, vocational services, training in social and communication skills, community outings, and leisure activities.


MLBHC’s team includes social workers and licensed professional counselors. The single alum polled by to date gave the facility five out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience.


There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, the single alum polled by to date gave the facility five stars for its accommodations, meals, and cleanliness, and two stars for its exercise/leisure offerings. “Not enough space,” they added.


The single alum polled by to date would strongly recommend treatment at this facility. “The counselors were awesome,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, giving the facility five stars for its family participation, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and four stars for its treatment effectiveness, but just one star for its holistic teratment offerings.

For outpatient services, MLBHC accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial insurances, and offers a sliding fee scale. For residential treatment, MLBHC is in-network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and also accepts private paymnet; payment plans are available.
