At Aspire Counseling Services we share the philosophy of Narcotics Anonymous: “It’s not what or how much you used but only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help.” Alcohol and other drugs become a problem when we continue to use despite negative consequences to our lives. Perhaps a person only drinks every 6 months but every time they drink they get a DUI. Or maybe you are a daily drinker who has a difficult time coping without alcohol. Perhaps you have had a physical injury that caused you to be prescribed painkillers and as your body gained a tolerance you ended up using more and more until no amount could take away your pain. Or maybe you are the person who has lost their relationships with family members due to street drugs and are suffering from the guilt and shame of not being able to stop. No matter your poison, being held hostage by a substance is no way to live. The counselors at Aspire Counseling Service are all ex addicts with multiple years in recovery obtained by different methods. We incorporate behavior modification, cognitive thinking, mindfulness skills, 12 step concepts, and many other models depending on each person’s needs and belief system. We understand that having a healthy support system is crucial to recovery and work to involve family members when possible as well as peers, sponsors, friends, and medical professionals.
ABOUT ASPIRE COUNSELING SERVICES
Located approximately 100 miles north of Los Angeles in Bakersfield, Calif. is a private, for-profit facility that offers partial hospitalization program (PHPs) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for adolescents and adults struggling with with substance use, as well as co-occurring disorders.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Aspire Counseling services provides evidence-based treatment designed to address each client’s individual needs. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying factors that may contribute to mental and behavioral health concerns, as well as teaching coping skills. Each client has an individualized treatment plan, and participates in a range of traditional, spiritual, and educational treatments.
In both PHP and IOP, group sessions are an important aspect of the treatment process. Aspire offers a variety of different groups, such as spirituality groups, anger management groups, gender-specific groups, and age-specific groups. Clients also receive individual counseling and are introduced to the principles and practices of 12-Step.
Addition topics that are addressed include relapse prevention, co-dependency, self-esteem, parenting, and mindfulness training. Clients in PHP also participate in physical fitness activities, meditation sessions, and art therapy.
In addition, Aspire offers an aftercare program for clients who complete primary treatment. Aftercare involves group meetings, which clients can use to stay connected with the recovery community while reinforcing their coping skills.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team at Aspire Counseling Services consists of certified alcohol and drug counselors, registered alcohol and drug technicians, and a psychiatrist. All counselors have multiple years in recovery. The facility is a part of the 19% of U.S. facilities that are accredited by the Joint Commission.
