Hope by the Sea

Hope by the Sea San Juan Capistrano California

Hope by the Sea believes that each and every addict and alcoholic has the inner strength and ability to change. The residential drug and alcohol rehab offers a variety of treatment programs, including a college track and a Christian-based rehab, so that each client can find a recovery method that truly fits. This individualized approach increases the effectiveness of treatment, and allows clients to build a strong foundation for long-lasting sobriety.

ABOUT HOPE BY THE SEA

Based in Southern California, Hope by the Sea offers residential substance abuse treatment for adult men and women and young adults. The facility also offers treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Programs are 30, 60, and 90 days, after which outpatient services and/or sober living houses are available as aftercare options. A detox unit is located on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The detox program is the first phase for some clients at Hope by the Sea and typically lasts three to seven days. In the residential treatment program, there are two main tracks — a standard one grounded in 12-step principles from a purely spiritual perspective, and another that’s Christian-based. The standard full service option combines 12-step work with individual and group cognitive counseling. The Christian drug rehab program, called Celebrate Hope, includes daily devotionals, religious counseling, and bible study groups.

Individuals seeking alternative recovery may opt for a non-12-step holistic approach called Complete Harmony. Hope Academy is the center’s young adult addiction treatment program.

All residents attend process groups, which utilize a variety of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, psychodrama, life skills, and relapse prevention. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings are held on-site each evening.

A three-day weekend family program integrates multi-family group therapy sessions with addiction education.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Hope by the Sea’s treatment team includes a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, marriage and family therapist, physician assistants, registered nurses, drug and alcohol counselors, transitional counselors, and addiction medicine specialist.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Men and women live in separate residences, and there is a special house for young adults. Accommodations are fairly upscale, with spacious kitchens, comfortable living and dining quarters, and outdoor areas with swimming pools and tennis courts. Healthy meals are prepared by chefs and served in the treatment center or individual homes.

Most residents share bedrooms with one or two others; however for an additional fee, clients can upgrade to an executive residence, which offers private bedrooms and Jacuzzi bathrooms. The executive house also includes maid and laundry services, while the standard homes require residents to share housekeeping chores.

  • ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! THE 5 STAR REVIEWS ARE ALL FROM STAFF. THE HOUSES ARE DIRTY, THE FOOD IS GARBAGE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. BETTER OFF DEALING WITH A GHETTO OUT PATIENT FACILITY, CAUSE THATS WHAT YOU GET HERE, JUST WITH A VIEW
I loved my stay in your treatment facility. I was always treated with dignity and respect , and learned so much . My case manager , group leader and , therapist were perfectly suited to me . I currently have 91 days sober and have never felt better. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

  • I feel a rehabilitation facility should not have employees that r recently clean like 6 months out of drugs. I feel is risky for the patient and the family members to have to find out after signing up this people r recently clean of heavy drugs. Also they do not take MD directions and refuse their patient their prescriptions. I never did drugs I didn't go there but as a family of someone that has don't waste ur 15 thousand dollars in this program. Also the acomodations r nothing like their pictures.

  • This place in nothing what they explain it to be before you get there. First of all you have small group's from seven to three everyday and it's always the same. The Councillors and staff are not very helpful or caring at all, you can basically tell they're just there for a paycheck. They tell you before you come you'll have your own personal nutritionist and that's not the case at all, all they feed you is pasta and soups. In almost all of the houses alot of the appliances are broke or outdated. After my thirty days completing the program I wasn't even giving a aftercare plan. Needless to say Hope By The Sea is all about money, not the sobriety of there clients. This place is an expensive rip off.

  • they have really nice facilities they don't know what they're doing. I was in treatment at this place and it is AWFUL. staff don't really care about the clients they are just there to get the pay check. I actually got to see a staff member getting home completely drunk and other house managers trying to help him. Also higher ups are dating house managers and we saw HM getting too close to Clients. The Director of operations pretends she cares but we heard she was also involved with multiple staff members a lot younger than her. There was a time when hope was a good place before all the good people left. My experience in detox was terrible as well. The facility is so dirty and everything is broken, Staff sits on their chair all day, on their personal phones.

  • We had a very poor experience with Hope. Poor communication, sour attitude, accusatory tone, and then our son was dropped off at the San Juan Capistrano train station in the middle of the program w/out even a courtesy call to let us know. Not good. Look elsewhere.

  • I was at Hope by the Sea in August 2015. It was horrible. The main offices were beautiful and well appointed. However, when I was transported to the detox house I was alarmed at the conditions. Most of the workers had only months sober and the sheets were stained with blood. The gourmet meals were absent and much of the food in the refrigerator was expired. It was gross. One of my greatest concerns was the lack of confidentiality.
Fellowship was good. Needs better communication. All around happy family feel

  • It was clean, had experienced workers, and really helped me get over my drug addiction. It was inexpensive. The meals they provided didn't make me feel healthy and the different treatment options were confusing. Overall I think it was great. The people there made me feel special and they really helped me get over my problems.

  • Great caring personal skills by the staff. Very comfortable rooms and emmenities. However, they seemed a little to trusting of the addicts. Its not as much about the rehab as it is the follow ups. What you learn in rehab isn't useful if you don't follow it daily.
RUN, do not walk away from Hope By The Sea. The place is amazing if you are a Radicalized Christian who likes to pray for the sins of others. This place is a the embodiment of whats wrong with America, if you an obnoxious, hypocrite and want to be policed by newly sober individuals who believe as long as you are Christian you can do no wrong, then I give Hope By the Seas five stars!!!!
My 20 year old daughter was set to go here, paled, airfare etc when the rug was pulled from under her at the 11th hour. They said she was emailed that she would not be accepted because of an eating disorder. Hope by the sea advertises that they specialize in these areas and dual diagnoses. Was it really our insurance, her age, tell the truth and be more humane. I am in shock that they would do this to someone so vulnerable. Think twice about sending a loved one through this revolving door.

  • Strengths: they have a dedicated team of trained professionals, they do individualized treatment programs, they understand the difficulty in transitioning from addiction to sober life . this facility is near the ocean which helps in a calming way to their clients there are no real stresses they try very hard to make you feel as comfortable as possible but they do require that you also help in your recovery

  • the chef cook not nutritious meals. they consist of either pasta, soup or salad. there is rarely enough food at ANY of the inpatient houses. house managers do not have much clean time themselves. much of the staff is caring and professional but some are not. many applicances are broken at a few houses and very outdated. you think with all the clients and the constant use of washers/dryers, dishwashers, refridgerators that they would be maintained and replaced often. this is not the case.

  • He has needed more treatment, but we have had to do it at home. There was NO support from the facility for after care. And they don't have time for phone calls either. Although it seemed like a great program at the beginning, and he did get clean while there, there completely failed in after care, and he relapsed. We cannot afford another stint in rehab.
