Genesis House

Genesis House Vallejo California

Genesis House is a Vallejo based residential substance abuse treatment center for chemically dependent individuals struggling with addiction. Services provided include intensive group therapy, 12-Step meetings, recreational activities, individualized treatment plans, gestalt therapy, and family outings. Genesis House specializes in instilling clients with a sense of responsibility and accountability through highly structured daily activities, chores, and leadership roles.

ABOUT GENESIS HOUSE

Located in the outskirts Vallejo, Calif., 32 miles north of San Francisco, Genesis House offers a phased, long-term residential treatment program and sober living residences for adult men and struggling with chemical dependency. The facility does not provide detoxification services on-site. According to the facility’s website, the residential program is designed to both treat addiction and promote lasting lifestyle changes. It is one of 485 facilities in the state of California that offers long-term treatment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, residents participate in an initial assessment to identify individual needs. The residential program lasts between nine and 11 months. Following a therapeutic community model of recovery, the residential program is designed to promote personal responsibility and independent living skills in a supportive environment. To help clients obtain and acquire sobriety, Genesis House blends 12-step immersion with evidence-based treatment methods.

During residential treatment, clients attend group and individual counseling sessions with their primary counselor. Genesis House also utilizes role-playing and psychodrama group therapy sessions to promote free expression, increase coping skills, and identify root causes of addiction. In addition to counseling, clients also regularly attend 12-step meetings and perform associated “step-work.” Along with core programming, clients participate in recreational activities, and family members are invited to attend educational and counseling sessions.

Programming is broken up into three distinct, 90-day treatment phases, in which clients gain increased privileges and responsibilities as they progress in recovery. The first phase focuses on the events which led to admission, while the latter phases focus on career guidance and vocational services, readying clients to become self-reliant members of society. Clients may choose to transition into the sober housing facilities, where residents and staff continue to coordinate vocational and educational plans.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Genesis House’s staff consists of an executive director, a clinical director, a job coordinator, and six counselors who are available 24 hours per day.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Genesis House is described as a self-sufficient community on its website. As a therapeutic community model of recovery, clients are assigned chores, expected to cook for themselves, and maintain living areas. The facility is comprised of four separate, adjacent facilities, all of which resemble multi-family homes. The program has capacity for up to 45 residents. Thirty-one beds are reserved for those in residential treatment, and the sober living facilities offer 14 beds.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The three former clients polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the facility high ratings. The alums praised the staff and its approaches. Though the alumni felt the accommodations were sparse, they said that added to the effectiveness of the treatment.

On Yelp, six individuals provided polarized opinions, offering an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars.[1] Like the Best-rehabs.com reviews, some felt the treatment’s rigor was helpful while others found it to be a hindrance.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Best-rehabs.com received mixed reviews from two loved ones. One loved one was pleased with his loved one’s experience and praised it for its religious influence. The other reviewer, however, gave a two-star rating for the facility’s counseling options and a three-star rating for the facility’s discharge planning. “There is not enough activity for the clients to distract them from their cravings,” the loved one wrote

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com to date is also a program alum. The reviewer described the program as one “suited for clients who feel they need a complete lifestyle change from substance abuse and an alcoholic lifestyle.” The survey respondent gave five-star ratings for the treatment staff’s level of experience and training and did not list any concerns about the staff.

FINANCING

The nonprofit subsists on government funding, donations, participants’ fees, and income generated by guest-driven fundraising activities, including its annual Christmas tree lot. Fees are based on each individual’s ability to pay, but there is an $800/month fee for those residing outside of Solano County.

I would recommend this facility to others.
This program is a social model program. That offers a daily schedule of activities, day to day recovery concepts Clients are one anothers support system. It is a safe clean and sober environment, has rules and procedures that have to be followed. Is appropriate if potential client is very impulsive and would like to learn boundaries and self discipline. Is suited for clients who feel they need a complete lifestyle change from a substance abuse and alcoholuc lifestyle. Clients should have the willingness to do things differently and learn problem solving skills. The program is affordable that it is based on ability to pay. Success depends on the clients willingness to remain clean and sober.
