Woodcrest is a residential substance abuse treatment facility exclusively for men.
The gender-specific rehab focuses on the issues specific to men in recovery, providing clients with a safe, non-judgmental environment to break down barriers and speak freely. Highly qualified substance abuse counselors and therapists engage clients in cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior modification and an introduction to the 12-Step method of recovery. Men learn how adapt and employ the coping skills necessary to live a clean and sober life.
ABOUT MFI RECOVERY CENTER — WOODCREST FACILITY
Established in 1972, nonprofit MFI Recovery offers mental health and substance abuse treatment for men, women, women with children, and adolescents. The Woodcrest facility in Riverside, Calif., offers residential, outpatient, and aftercare services for men who are struggling with substance abuse and. Although detox services are not available at this location, it is available at the MFI Alcohol and Drug Detox Center.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
MFI’s website stresses that its approach is evidence-based and gender-based, provided individualized treatment options for men.
The treatment program is quite traditional: the building blocks of treatment are individual, group, and family therapy, plus an introduction to the 12-Steps. The center also uses, an integrative and highly structured model that was developed in the 1980s to treat addiction to stimulants. Other treatment modalities in use at this facility include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavior modification therapy.
The facility employs a psychiatrist, master’s level counselors, and certified substance abuse counselors. The five individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it an average rating of 3.8 out of five stars.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Located on six acres of ranch land, this facility offers simple shared bedrooms with twin beds, a cozy communal area around an imposing stone fireplace, and a laundry room. To date, the five individuals polled on the facility’s cleanliness gave it an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
There have been five alumni reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing. Two were mostly positive, two were mixed, and one was negative. The alumni cited many issues with the facility, but there was little overlap between alumni criticisms.
Two of the alumni gave four out of five stars or higher to the facility’s staff’s level of training and experience and available counseling options. “The program was strict but effective,” T.S.S. wrote, and M.A. added: “Was given a lot of respect at this facility. In addition, the staff was very supportive.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Of the five reviews from loved ones submitted to Best-rehabs.com to date, four were positive and one was negative. The four individuals asked to assess the center’s family program gave it an average rating of 3.75 out of five stars, and the five individuals polled on its performance in a variety of other areas gave it average ratings of 3.6 stars and 2.8 stars, respectively, for its exercise and holistic offerings.
Much like the alumni reviews, there was little overlap between reviewers’ comments. Laura praised the center’s grounding in the 12-Steps, its staff, and its aftercare, and Len described Woodcrest as “structured and professional.” One anonymous reviewer, however, wrote: “Understaffed,undertrained,underfunded,didn't seem to be managed very well.”
On Google, the facility received 4.5 out of five stars from 10 reviews to date. Many of the reviews came from loved ones who have noticed improvements. Parent Sandra wrote: “Have help my tween with issues that we are struggling with. The counselors are great with all age groops. They work individually and with family units to work on issues. We are pleased with the care we get fromthem and the Doctor.”
According to the facility’s website, the center accepts some HMO insurance on an in-network basis. For uninsured clients, the private pay rate is $7,500 for a 30-day stay, and a sliding fee scale is available for those in need. To date, the five individuals polled on the center’s affordability gave it an average rating of 4.2 out of five stars.
