ABOUT CHAPMAN HOUSE

Founded in 1978 and located in the suburban Southern California city of Orange, Chapman House offers residential treatment and outpatient programs for adults struggling with substance use disorders. The facility is also one of the 200 (14 percent) treatment facilities in the state to offer non-hospital detox services. While the facility does accept individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders, additional fees may be involved with ancillary services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

If required, clients may begin treatment at Chapman House with detoxification, which is monitored 24 hours a day by a physician and/or psychiatrist. Residential care typically lasts 28 days, though some clients stay longer.

Chapman House combines evidence-based treatment methods with 12-Step and its own unique treatment approach. During residential care, clients complete assignments in the facility’s own workbook, participate in group counseling, attend education classes on treatment and recovery, and attend 12-step meetings. Individual and family counseling are also available, for an extra fee. The center also offers specialized programs for those struggling with cocaine addiction and chronic pain.

Outpatient treatment is offered at a variety of intensities, including a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which involves up to eight hours of treatment a day, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), which involves at least six groups per week, as well as generalized outpatient care.

  • Chapman House Reviews

Very nice rooms that are comfy and only 2 beds to a room. All rooms have TV's and central air conditioning. Setting is multiple connected town homes. Facility is co-ed with men & women housed in different units. Freshly prepared hot meas 3 times a day by a experienced cook. The food is delicious. Staff is very compassionate and they all show a genuine concern for each individual client. Weekly outings to the beach or hiking as well as daily trips to the gym. Facility has medical detox on site as well as inpatient, IOP and outpatient. Cell phones, ipads, ipods and laptops are permitted at the facility once client completes detox (that is if they detox here) and are in compliance with program rules and are making progress in their recovery. Weekly family groups as well as weekend passes. I have observed on several occasions certain staff members being to lenient when a client disobeys the rules or sometimes they show favoritism.....It's a wonderful place. I wish the treatment facilities that I was in several times before I got sober were like this one or even a little like this one. If you are serious about getting sober and want to be in a safe, clean nurturing environment with staff that are compassionate and understanding as well as informative and not afraid to pull you up on your defect of character so that you can make positive changes in y our life, then this is the place for you.

  • Good location, a lot of activities to keep yourself busy, a good counselor who runs the day group who has been through the same things or worse than you and others I the facility. Very lenient with outside privileges, the person who runs the house is usually a shady character who is participating in illegal enterprises and doesn't care to assist anyone, no consistency amongst the patients. If you area pretty much able to stop alcohol and/or drugs on your own, you're ready to quit, and are just in need of some therapy and healthy alternatives to using while having a lot of freedom, then this is the place for you.

  • Strengths: Staff encourages & prompts pts to attend & participate in all groups & unit activities... Weaknesses: No extensive AMA blocking attempts... This facility was one of the best i was ever admitted to. i just wasn't ready to surrender & get sober again, at that time...

  • Each patient had a counselor assigned to them, who provided liaison with the family. One night we interacted with other parents and patients (all juveniles) and the counselor. The other evening was just parents and the counsellor. There was one weekend program nearing the end of the stay. There was a six to 10 week aftercare program where family and patient were back at the facility for the patient/parent program.

When you have an addiction you need staff that is properly trained and is sensitive to your needs but you also need someone to be on you and make sure you are putting first things first and this facility does that. I would recommend the facility because the staff cares. If I were ever to relapse I would return here. We had regular counseling sessions. One on one and group therapy. The counselors were very knowledgeable and offered the greatest services and in turn I have not drank in 8 years. Every counselor was positive. In addition, we were taught about relapse and how to deal with it.

  • I attended the program at Chapman House in December of 2014. I was hesitant at first, because I expected the rehab you see on TV. Chapman House was far more modest than what I was expecting. But as I got into the program, I found that what made me want to stay were the people. One of the counselors, I can honestly say, is responsible for saving my life. He never talked to any of the clients like they were a "drug addict." It didn't matter what time of night, what he was doing, if someone wanted to talk he was there. Chapman House is the real deal because of counselors like him
