  • I love the Betty Ford Center. Likely, upon arriving, an indidual is not in a happy state of affairs, to say the least. One doesn’t make it to Rehab “on a winning streak,” as they say. Turning one’s health care over to talented and caring professionals, however, is the right step towards a happy and effective future lifestyle. I can say with the sincerest of sentiments, that BFC is a wonderful setting to begin your or your loved one’s healing process. The staff is very professional and yet kind. For the first time in a long time we are surrounded by individuals who really help us get back on our feet. The approach is wholistic and involves counseling, therapy, psychiatric if necessary, exercise, good nutrition and commeraderie likewise is promoted. Attending Betty Ford Center for 60 days was one of the best things I ever did in my life. Thank you, Betty Fords Center

  • Attended the Family Program. I was alone. I had an amazing experience and learned a lot about The Family Disease & Dynamics. I saw what my family has gone thru while I was absent and Out There using. I did not realize the level of pain they were suffering. When I use I hurt a lot of people. The codependent/enabling part of the program created a lot of awareness. I also loved the interactive models set up to make us aware. It help to see how the family interacts. I was not inpatient.
Less than 48 hours after admission at the Betty Ford Foundation in Rancho Mirage, for a 1 month stay to address substance abuse, our 30 year old daughter was kicked out of the detox unit for being rude and belligerent, a violation of the behavioral contract at Betty Ford. A man entered her room and told her she'd be given a list of referrals, and she had 45 minutes to pack her bags and get out. Our unstable, medicated daughter cried, and told him, she was alone, knew nobody in the area, and had no phone. He said "waterworks would get her nowhere", that she had 45 minutes to be gone, or the cops would be called. With that he walked out of her room. Her nearest relative was 3 hours away in LA. Left alone, our daughter was able to lock herself in a bathroom, break a mirror and cut herself in a suicide attempt. Luckily, the cops were called, and she was sent to a hospital. I am familiar with typical treatment center protocol - safely transferring a patient to a hospital for medical or psychiatric care, but kicking a sick, medicated, unstable, distraught patient to the curb - and allowing them the opportunity to lock themselves in a bathroom and attempt suicide? We are fortunate she did not kill herself, that her wounds were not deep. Still, is this the place you want to trust to care for your sick, addicted loved one?

  • Treatment was consistently solid and was constantly upgraded til 2010.Since 2010 Betty Ford Center has cut its budget, reduced its length of stay and length of the Family Program and I cannot in good conscience still recommend it.Insurance driven and dictated to by insurance bureaucrats. Shortened programs and length of stayfewer credentialed and experienced staff and management

  • The front office is a mess with paperwork. Wrong birth dates on ppwk, wrong diagnoses, disorganization. Also lack of communication with medications and the pharmacy. The schedule overlaps and they don't explain it to you. The other staff (nurses, techs, kitchen staff, doctors, and counselors are great). Just stay away from the front.
Total crap. Residents were warned "The Bartender from Houston" was to arrive. Yes, I was that bartender. I was court ordered to attend a rehab. I was also sponsored by someone else. I guess that's why I was treated differently than other patients. I didn't have a college degree - then. Then again, mommy and daddy didn't sponsor my life into my late 20s and 30s like everyone else there. Yes, my mother and father had the poor taste to die poverty stricken when I was 12 and 15, respectively. I'm fine, today. Thanks - for nothing.

  • I stayed at BFC for a total of 5 months. From detox to inpatient to day treatment to intensive outpatient. I was lucky to have been able to come through Betty Ford. For me it took this long just to be able to function outside of treatment with some confidence that I could make it without drinking or using again. While my experience at Betty Ford was not perfect, I could not, and would not want to imagine myself in recovery anywhere else. Not only was the Betty Ford Center able to help me in my journey of recovery, they also helped my family. The family program at Betty Ford Center is unlike any of its kind, anywhere. The things that were not perfect at BFC are the same imperfections that would be found at any good treatment center. To clarify: 1. It isn't cheap, however what is the cost of saving a human life? It wasn't so long ago that Betty Ford didn't take insurance, AT ALL. 2. From what I experienced the administration, counselors, nurses and support staff, many of whom are in recovery themselves, are caring, attentive and are good at their jobs because they are doing the job they want to be doing...and it shows. However, Betty Ford is a big organization even if you are just dealing with the Rancho Mirage campus, communication is not always perfect and sometimes patients have to be more diligent about getting the services they need. 3. Relapse happens after treatment, believe it or not it sometimes happens during treatment. I saw friends I made at BFC relapse and come back, some did not come back. Some people do not want to get sober; some people do want to get sober but are not being honest with themselves, with peers or with staff; some people really truly do want sobriety and are willing to be honest and do whatever is necessary to get and keep it. Much of the time I saw that my peers in that third group were most likely to succeed. I say most likely...nothing is ever guaranteed. The Betty Ford Center is, has been, and I hope always will be a place of experience, strength, hope and serenity in the fight against the corrosive effect that drugs and alcohol have on those who suffer as well as their friends and loved ones.

  • Our son was in BF rehab for 30 days for opioid addiction. 12 step program was basis of this program. Program does not use Vivitrol or ReVia as treatment option. Good luck trying to obtain this after discharge. Its easier getting opioids than this non addicting, non narcotic med. They should offer it in a clinic. Very dissatisfied with Betty Ford.

  • My son was at Rancho Mirage in August 2016, he walked out and left his suitcase behind, he was not his self, We went on to get him into another facility immediately and when he come out he phoned the centre to pick his suitcase up, he was told it was not there ,they had thrown all his clothes, ipod etc away, a whole suitcase full ??? even though his friend had actually gone to the centre to pick the case up after 1 week of him leaving to be told the case was not there...1 week ?...makes me wonder, they had my telephone number and his friends number and his insurance company number, could they just make a phone call to ask, ' is someone coming to collect suitcase or we will dispose of it ' I have then sent them 6 emails complaining and asking why this could happen and have been completely ignored, not a very nice after service,

Pain Managment Program Holistic approach Most of the staff are in recovery, so they understand the clients pretty well Location Too much emphasis on 12 Steps. I understand and agree with the importance of The Steps, but this facility went overboard on this area in my opinion. Way overboard. Very expensive. The Pain Management Program at the Betty Ford Center is extraordinary, powerful, and effective, helping its participants to walk into life with a new set of tools for healing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle free of suffering from pain.

  • Excellent in terms of approach to treatment of addiction. No-nonsense, recovery first happens to be a necessity for some and that is what BFC provides. Very knowledgeable staff many of whom are former addicts and have considerable experience in addiction treatment. Comprehensive approach addressing the underlying causes of addiction as well as providing the fundamentals of life long recovery. You need to be ready to "get" recovery in order to get the most out of it (meaning not sent there to please somebody else) and if you are everything is at your disposal to succeed.

He was delusional as to how much he could afford to spend on rehab, we thought he didn't need such a Hollywood style rehab, he needed a boot camp or something, not to be coddled. He ended up bottoming out again about 3 times before surrendering.Took almost two years before recovery "stuck" -- and it was ridiculously expensive.

  • I thought that the setting was very nice. The treatment was very detailed and intense. The whole family was involved. But the people in the program did not get sober. At least the 5 people I met when I was there. It seemed a bit to comfortable and did not offer enough support when the patient entered the world again

  • Strengths: Experience, large facility, multi-addiction treatment, youth programs, family programs. Weaknesses: Seems like progressing from onsite living programs to continued evening programs is considered automatic instead of case by case. The family programs are invaluable. Often times families are left feeling helpless and these programs are a god send.
