ABOUT COMPREHENSIVE ADDICTION PROGRAMS, INC.

Comprehensive Addiction Programs, Inc. (CAP) serves approximately 200 clients per year through its drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation services. Since 1972, the nonprofit organization has been dedicated to providing treatment and transitional living to men and women in the Fresno community who are seeking tools to overcome substance abuse disorders and create sustainable lives within their community. Dual diagnosis treatment, medication monitoring, and detox services are available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Prior to admission, each client undergoes a phone screening process to determine their qualifications for service and level of care needed. Staff and clients work together to develop individualized plans to manage co-occurring medical conditions and work towards recovery. CAP utilizes the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) assessment tool to inform treatment plans.

The foundation of rehabilitation services at CAP is focused on helping clients work and solve problems in a community setting. Weekly Family Education Group attendance is mandatory for residential clients, although there is a seven-day separation period prior to the start of this communication. Children under 16 are exempt from this initial blackout period.

Therapies that support behavioral changes and long-term recovery at CAP are based on 12-step practices and education, which address a range of issues including neurochemistry, family of origin, boundaries, spirituality, anger management, parenting, drug-free recreation, skills in processing feelings, relationship communication, and relapse prevention. Transitional living programs require clients to complete chores, and an aftercare group is available on a weekly basis.

CAP’s detox center is the only non-medical residential unit in the Central Valley that provides detox services for men. Both men and women may stay for a maximum of 14 days. The detox program prioritizes addiction education, peer group counseling, 24-hour supervision, and mental health assessment. An intense three- to five-day detox program is also offered for clients who require assistance following a relapse.

  • The the location was a great benefit of the facility; there were no outside interferences. However, they lack specific counseling; you are just kind of thrown in there to follow rules, which is good but there are missed opportunities to self discover. There were a lot of issues: personality compatibility, or lack of, were deciding factors, instead of focusing on what it takes to get clean. There was also not enough counseling on a personal level.
