ABOUT HILLSIDE LAGUNA
Set in one of California’s most exclusive communities, with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the Catalina cliffs, Hillside Laguna is a luxury residential treatment center catering to clients seeking extreme privacy. It offers a holistic approach to addiction recovery, as well as treatment for co-occurring disorders including depression. Detox is available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, Hillside Laguna approaches recovery through a mixture of 12-step and holistic healing, with heavy emphasis on the individual client. Holistic treatment incorporates yoga, massages, acupuncture, equine therapy, art therapy, nutritional classes, instructive fitness, meditation, spiritual counseling, and outdoor activities like hiking, beach outings, and biking around the area – all in addition to regular off site 12-step meetings. For those seeking an alternative to the 12-step approach, the facility offers other options, including Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) treatment.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Hillside Laguna’s treatment team includes licensed professional clinical counselors, a designated medical director, and an outreach program director, according to the center’s website. The facility has a designated “holistic program team” that includes a registered dietitian, certified personal trainer, and certified holistic health practitioner.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
This high-end facility’s website notes the center spans three acres of land and accommodates only six clients at a time. Clients may sleep in either private or semi-private bedrooms, and a host of other comforts includes Internet and office access, private video teleconferencing for work calls, a fitness center, on-site laundry facilities, and nutritious meals that the facility’s website describes as “organic, gourmet food.”
The facility is quite lenient on electronics: clients can spend their free time watching TV or talking on the phone, and post-detox, they can use their cell phones and laptops during non-group hours. Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays and major holidays, with some restrictions during a client’s first week at the facility.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni who submitted reviews to Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive feedback. They both gave the center five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, meals and nutrition, and accommodations and amenities.
Alum Kellie praised the staff in her review. “The staff were all very nice, approachable, knowledgeable and dedicated,” she wrote. “The staff really did their best to help me.”
“Great People, Beautiful and Tranquil Setting, was provided a unique, effective, and long lasting approach to my addiction,” A.T. wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The one staff member who was polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a positive opinion of Hillside Laguna. They gave the center five out of five stars when asked if they would recommend the facility, and when asked about leisure and exercise options.
They rated the center’s family participation the worst with two stars. But, called the staff “great.”
FINANCING
Hillside Laguna is $36,000 a month, and $100,000 for 90 days. However, the center accepts some insurance providers including Aetna, Cigna, United Health Care, Health Net, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Value Options, and GEHA. Clients should call the facility to check their insurance coverage. The facility does not accept Medicare, Medicaid, GHI, or HMOs.
