From a palm-tree-lined square four miles from the beach in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Ocean Hills Recovery offers medically supervised detox, residential treatment, a dual diagnosis program, and sober living facilities for adults struggling with addiction.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, residential treatment at Ocean Hills Recovery lasts 30, 60, or 90 days and combines the theories of the 12-Steps with evidence-based psychotherapy approach.
Ocean Hills Recovery utilizes various treatment modalities, including group and individual counseling, family therapy, relapse prevention training, and life skills training. Additional services include yoga classes, home-cooked meals, art therapy, beach and movie outings, and access to a fitness center.
Ocean Hills Recovery offers a variety of programs including alcohol treatment, drug treatment, addiction treatment, dual diagnosis, fresh start treatment, and 12-step recovery.
The center also operates transitional living residences in Dana Point, Calif. A member of Ocean Hills Recovery’s Staff manages each sober living home. Residents in this program are expected to follow house rules, are responsible for some household chores, and attend 12-step meetings.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Ocean Hill Recovery’s website notes staff members include a psychiatrist, two clinical psychologists, master’s-level therapists, certified addiction counselors, and a licensed practical nurse.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Ocean Hills Recovery’s website indicates, it operates two houses for detoxification, plus three homes for the men’s, women’s, and co-ed residential programs. Photographs published on the facility’s website show comfortable, family-style homes with shared bedrooms and full kitchens; some have gardens or patios. The eight individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a 4.5 out of five star average for accommodations and amenities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The five alumni that were surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive reviews. Of the five alumni polled, four gave Ocean Hills Recovery five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, while the other alum gave three stars in this metric.
Mary, an alum, also submitted a glowing review to Best-rehabs.com. She recommended the facility to others, and indicated that it was worth the cost. “I got a new lease on life at Ocean Hills Recovery,” she wrote. “I arrived broken, and the clients, under the watchful eyes of the staff, put me back together again.”
One alum rated the center well for accommodations, meals, and treatment effectiveness. “A lot of experience and success with treating people with dependancy,” they wrote.
However, one alum mentioned problems with the cost of treatment and hidden fees. But, the same alum praised the staff.

The three loved ones who were questioned by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive reviews. All three loved one gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness.
Loved ones also rated the center high for exercise, family participation, cleanliness, and the staff’s level of training and experience.
“I am so grateful for their services and the attentive staff,” a parent wrote in a representative review.
FINANCING
According to Ocean Hills Recovery’s website, the center accepts numerous insurance policies, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and United. The facility’s website also states that other financial options are available for the uninsured.
