ABOUT ORANGE COUNTY RECOVERY SERVICES

Located in Huntington Beach, Calif., Orange County Recovery Services (OCRS) offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adult men and women. The center partners with nearby sober living facilities to accommodate client housing. Detox services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, treatment is designed as continuing care for clients who have already completed a residential program or are at a stage where they require slightly less supervision than 24-hour residential care. Most clients live in a sober living residence while they are enrolled in the intensive outpatient (IOP) program, which includes individual counseling, group therapy, addiction education, relapse prevention workshops, biofeedback, and vocational guidance and training services.

Clients are drug tested twice a week and if needed, are provided with referrals to doctors, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

The outpatient program, which is intended as a step down from IOP, is less intensive and includes one-on-one counseling once a week, along with continued support and less frequent group counseling.

A family program is offered for loved ones and is designed to provide a forum for loved ones to discuss issues, ask questions, and receive feedback and support.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Staff members include counselors, a therapist, case managers, and an interventionist, according to the facility’s website.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to the center’s website, OCRS currently partners with two sober living facilities — The Chadwick House for women and The Ohio House for men. Both are located in Orange County and offer highly-structured living environments for clients seriously involved in a recovery program.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The three former clients polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered mixed to positive reviews of OCRS. All three agreed that the staff was helpful, compassionate, and kind. “The staff really tried to help with the patients’ needs in terms of getting the patients to the appropriate care provider…One staff member went out of his way to make sure that my family was apprised of my condition,” one wrote. Otherwise, alumni were generally in disagreement on the rating of numerous metrics, with no consistent ratings between them. Complaints revolved around sparse accommodations, subpar food, maxed capacity, and long wait times to see a physician. Overall, while the alumni seemed satisfied with the treatment and appreciative of the staff’s efforts, the facility’s accommodations and offerings outside traditional treatment appeared to be received less positively.

On Yelp, a dozen reviewers gave the facility an average rating of 4.67 out of five stars. [1] “I’ve had a drug problem for over ten years, I’ve been to multiply different treatments and out patient programs,” alum Austyn wrote. “Orange County Recovery Services is the only place that has given real support and care to help me get better.” Another alum thanked the center giving him his life back. Yet, one alum, Mark, didn’t provide positive feedback. He awarded one star and said “These guys are straight con artists.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Best-rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s affiliated loved ones. However, the four loved ones who left reviews on Yelp at the time of this writing provided positive feedback.

All loved ones gave five out of five stars. Alex, the brother of an alum, wrote: “My brother has been to rehabs all over the United States and nothing worked until OCRS. I watched his attitude change about his IOP group sessions and he was able to make good sober friends.” Another sibling, Payton said, “It is great to have him back in our lives and see life in his eyes,” they wrote. “We owe the staff and counselors at OCRS a ton of gratitude.”

Further, Ellen, whose son attended the program, wrote that he “is still sober and happy today. His counselor was passionate and caring and has continued to stay in contact with him to this day.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

The one current staffer polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility four- and five- out of five star ratings for every one of the 15 categories they evaluated including its cleanliness, counseling options, and effectiveness. They noted OCRS’s “client-focused recovery” as a major strength.

They were understanding...but the facility was a bit full. It's a great affordable treatment for anyone.

  • Most of the staff were pleasant to deal with. The staff really tried to help with the patients' needs in terms of getting the patients to the appropriate care provider. The food quality was poor, and the necessary quantity of food was not available. The accommodations were plain and sparse. The waiting time to see a physician was too long. One staff member went out of his way to make sure that my family was apprised of my condition. It is a county mental health facility; so, some aspects as far as the amenities are not available. However, my immediate need of not harming anyone was taken care of.
