U-Turn For Christ is a residential rehabilitation center for men struggling with addiction. The facility, located in Perris, California, offers a Christian Discipleship re-entry program that allows residents to contribute to the community while recovering. U-Turn’s objective is to teach men to become self-supporting and stable under the guidance of Jesus Christ, and to become valuable members of their families, churches, friends, employers, schools, and society.
ABOUT U-TURN FOR CHRIST
U-Turn for Christ is an international network of Christian discipleship programs that help men and women recover from substance misuse by establishing and maintaining a connection to Jesus. The organization has six facilities overseas and 14 locations throughout the U.S., including Needles and Camino, California. The Perris, California branch is the flagship location. Clients do not have to be practicing Christians to enroll, but they must be willing to participate in Bible studies, church services, and other religious events. Treatment at U-Turn is long-term, with a minimum commitment of two months and some clients staying up to eight months.
New clients must be over 18 years old, not be a sex offender, and have 24 hours of sobriety upon arrival. While the center accepts court-ordered clients, they are required to complete the full eight-month program, rather than just the compulsory two months. Clients taking psychotropic medications must gradually reduce their dosage by 25 percent per week.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
U-Turn for Christ emphasizes that all treatment is based on biblical principles and does not employ 12-step, clinical, or other methods. Treatment is divided into two phases, with only Phase One being mandatory. During this phase, which lasts a minimum of two months, residents engage in devotions, chores, community service, Bible study, and personal devotion time in the evenings. Communal living and “healthy fellowship” are emphasized during this phase.
Phase Two is optional and lasts six months. During this phase, residents have two choices. One option is to seek regular employment during the day and attend church services in the evenings. The other option is to fully serve in the ministry, which requires significant sacrifice. Residents who choose the second option often stay for up to a year and may go on to serve at other U-Turn for Christ facilities in the United States and around the world.
