ABOUT SUSAN B. ANTHONY RECOVERY CENTER
The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, named for the eponymous nineteenth-century women’s rights activist, is a 5.5-acre campus 20 miles north of Miami that offers residential and outpatient treatment plus aftercare for mothers and pregnant women 18 and older who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Founded in 1995, the center’s goal is to “transform families by providing help, hope, and healing for mothers and their children to live responsible drug-free lives.”
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Susan B. Anthony begins with a bio-psychosocial assessment. Programs include individual and family/couples therapy, therapeutic and educational groups, peer mentoring, and trauma reduction therapy.
A case manager helps clients with life skills such as childcare, housing, budgeting, and discharge planning. Residents may also take advantage of individual and group educational and career sessions, including vocational classes, job placement assistance, and G.E.D. assistance.
Programs are offered for children to help with child development as well as offer parenting practice for mothers. Children’s programming begins with a development assessment followed by individual and/or group sessions, play therapy, and social skills building.
Outpatient care is available — the facility’s website lists an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient care, but does not give program specifics for either. Aftercare includes individual and group therapy sessions along with continued assessments.
