ABOUT WAIANAE COAST COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTER – WAIANAE
Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center is an integrated healthcare provider that primarily serves the low-income and indigenous Hawaiian populations from Pearl City to Makaha on Oahu. Malama Recovery Service of Waianae, 32 miles west of Honolulu, is one of three clinics operated by the healthcare provider, offering specialized services and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for individuals struggling with chemical dependency.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients participate an initial, comprehensive assessment and evaluation to identify specific issues and form an individualized treatment program. Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center’s IOP adheres to an abstinence-based treatment model that integrates evidence-based treatment modalities into programming. Specifically, Malama Recovery Service utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to identify the link between irrational thinking patterns and destructive behaviors.
During the 16-week program, clients participate in a schedule of individual therapy, group counseling sessions, as well as family/couples counseling. The goal of CBT counseling sessions is to identify the underlying contributors to addictive behavior. Malama also facilitates gender-specific groups to address issues common among men and women struggling with chemical dependency. In addition, Malama Recovery Service offers domestic abuse counseling, parenting classes, and anger management classes.
Best-rehabs.com survey results also indicated that an introduction to 12-Step, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, may also play a key role in treatment programming. Clients may be encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, gain a sponsor, study 12-step literature, and perform associated step work. Along with treatment for chemical dependency, Malama also offers case management, which may include linkages and referrals to sober housing, vocational training, and community-based resources that promote sustained recovery.
