Adolescent Growth Lombard Illinois

At Adolescent Growth, we believe that effectively treating teens requires special insight and a comprehensive understanding of their needs. To that end, our multidisciplinary team works with you and your child to create a personalized plan for success.

ABOUT ADOLESCENT GROWTH – LOMBARD

Located just outside of Chicago in Lombard, Ill., Adolescent Growth offers intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), and residential treatment to teens between the ages of 12 and 17 struggling with addiction, mental health disorders, and co-occurring disorders, with a special program for eating disorders. Adolescent Growth has three locations, with two additional facilities in California. Medical detox is not available, although psychiatric consultation and medication management is provided.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Adolescent Growth is holistic and also provides 12-step intervention, with a focus on both physical and mental health.. Teens attend school, individual counseling, and group therapy. The two therapeutic methods most commonly used are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectic behavior therapy (DBT), and clients also work out in a gym and participate in yoga and meditation.

Since the program is focused on teens, family participation is encouraged. This includes family therapy up to twice per week, weekly parent support groups, and a multi-family restoration workshop.

Each client leaves with a relapse prevention plan and those who find success at Adolescent Growth are granted free access to the facility’s alumni group, which meets monthly.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Best-rehabs.com has not yet received reviews from Adolescent Growth’s alumni, feedback from former clients on Yelp is mostly negative. Out of 15 ratings, the facility had received 3.3 out of five stars and several respondents complained about poor food and nutrition options and insufficient management.[1] H.H., who attended the facility in 2012, wrote: “They took 20+ kids at a time and shoved them into a 30×30 living room area and we weren’t allowed to leave. They didnt buy enough food for us so a lot of us went hungry most of the time.”

On the other hand, Alexandria gave five out of five stars and wrote: “My first day at Adolescent Growth, I cried, didn’t want to be there and didn’t talk to anyone,” but also said, in the end, “They treated me like family and I felt very safe there.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single review from a loved one to date was positive. Following her daughter’s successful completion of treatment, Lisa gave the facility five out of five stars for all evaluated criteria such as treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. Lisa praised the facility for its level of family participation and the helpfulness of the staff.

On secondary review sites, loved ones were more vocal but also more mixed in their opinions of the facility. Susan gave a glowing five-star review on both Yelp and Facebook, where to date there are 11 ratings averaging 4.4 out of five stars.[2] In her representative review, she detailed professional, attentive staff, a home-like environment, and stellar communication among staff, clients, and parents

Other loved ones accused the facility of being a greedy corporation with poor management and a lack of professionals. An anonymous review told Yelp that the place where adolescents are dropped off is not where they live. “The boys are bussed to a facility in a not so great area of downtown Los Angeles. The owners are very secretive about this issue and only let parents know if they beg.” Additionally, another parent who gave just one star on Yelp wrote: “They are unorganized and not equipped to deal with drug related issues,” and went on to detail extensive financial and legal issues that the facility induced.

WHAT STAFF SAY

One staff member reviewed Adolescent Growth and gave every category five out of five stars, including holistic treatment offerings, cleanliness, and affordability. They wrote: “Great facility with very caring and attentive staff.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, Adolescent Growth accepts most private health insurance plans, such as Aetna and United.

Adolescent Growth Reviews

Great environment, caring owners and wonderful program. Best decision you could ever make is to come here for help, highly recommend!! The facility is beautiful and the staff are well trained and committed to the mission. If you are struggling to decide if you should come or not, don't! Look no further, this is the program. Treating depression, substance abuse, and eating disorders and really making a difference in the lives of hurting families.
Worst three weeks of my life. I’ve had a lot of trauma by the hands of men and i was assigned a male therapist, something i’d NEVER had before. When i asked for a female therapist, they refused and told me i needed to “go through this journey with a man” whatever that’s supposed to mean. So the whole time i was there i didn’t even get the help i needed because i was uncomfortable with my therapist. (He was also kind of a creep.) oh, and now i’m $6,000 in debt because they neglected to inform me my insurance was kicking me out until the NIGHT BEFORE, when i live six hours away. so i has to pay $5,000 to be there until 10am. Thanks, Adolescent Growth!
Staff not very helpful and accommodations were very limited and not helpful
It is 1:30 in the morning and we just got home from picking my daughter up from the Lombard facility. We received a voicemail at 2:08 that our insurance was up effective yesterday and I called back within 30 minutes. No one returned my call until 7pm. When they did call, I was informed that they missed a clinical report to our insurance due to my daughter being in the hospital. My insurance had decline our coverage as of yesterday. She had only been in for 7 days of the recommended 45. Dr recommended I wait until a peer to peer review and hope for the best. Meanwhile, she informed me that I now had complete financial responsibility if she stayed the night. We live 3 hours away from the facility and were given no information on what that would cost. When we got there, there was not discharge papers, no assistance for transitioning her out of in patient, nor any information on monitoring the new drugs she as on. The people in the facility seemed genuine and caring. The people running it seem very shady. I also was told that they were in network Blue Cross Blue Shield both during and after the admissions process. Reading the reviews, I am now worried that I was flat out lied to like the previous reviewer. First call tomorrow will be to find out patient help for my daughter, the next is to Blue Cross Blue Shield to see if our dealing with Adolescent Growth is even worse than we thought. Avoid this group.
While my daughter was in-patient, I inquired online about insurance benefits. I was quoted my in network deductible and told they work with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. We were only 5 days into what turned out to be a 14 day in-patient stay, and the admissions department called me EVERY DAY to ask me to commit to brining my daughter there. I was annoyed, but ultimately liked that the facility was close to home, so I chose to take her there. The Lombard facility is fantastic. The staff is great, the accommodations are beautiful, the house is clean, and the overall feel was warm and inviting. My daughter made excellent progress there. Things started to unravel at discharge. I received a call from corporate about my insurance benefits ending and we needed to schedule a discharge the next day. Only then was I told they are OUT of network, and my out of network benefits only paid what feels like $.01/$1,000. I am now almost $70,000 in debit after 40 days and they refuse to return my phone calls or send me itemized invoices. This is ridiculous. If you can afford it, I highly recommend the Lombard facility. If you don't have $100,000 for the full 60 day stay, don't bother. Awful service from corporate, bordering on criminal.
