At Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of Southeast Iowa (ADDS), patients receive high-quality residential and outpatient addiction treatment in a comfortable, non-hospital setting. The facility believes that treatment should be available to anyone, regardless of income, and offers sliding scale fees for Iowa residents.
A complete continuum of care for men and women with substance abuse issues, gambling problems, and behavioral disorders is provided, as well as education and support for family members and other loved ones.
ABOUT ALCOHOL AND DRUG DEPENDENCY SERVICES OF SOUTHEAST IOWA
Headquartered in Burlington, the Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services (ADDS) of Southeast Iowa offers residential and outpatient treatment programs, from prevention through aftercare, for adults struggling with chemical dependency. The facility is one of 27 (16.6 percent) treatment programs in Vermont to provide long-term residential care.
Outpatient options include a DUI (OWI) course, as well as specialized programming for problematic gambling and other compulsive behaviors. The nonprofit network serves Des Moines, Henry, Lee, and Louisa Counties.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Clients can access treatment with Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services through walk-in screenings offered at the agency’s Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Wapello, and Keokuk clinics. Residential admission includes an initial physical exam; however, ADDS makes a point that treatment is for primary substance use disorders, and dual diagnosis treatment for significant co-occurring mental health disorders is not provided.
Addiction treatment is designed to build on each client’s strengths. The ADDS residential program includes a structured schedule of individual, group, and family therapy, as well as drug and alcohol education. Residents also attend self-help meetings. Undergoing weekly reviews and adjustments to individualized treatment plans, residents can progress through five levels, with the final being transitional or “halfway house status.”
ADDS offers an extended, maintenance-focused outpatient program and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Consisting of nine hours of group treatment and relapse prevention per week, the IOP also incorporates individual and family counseling. The standard outpatient program is open to both adults and adolescents.
Department of Transportation OWI evaluations can be conducted through ADDS, along with a 12-hour OWI course. Additional services include drug and alcohol testing, drug court facilitation, phone and web-based counseling, case management, and a biweekly recovery management group. The network’s Access to Recovery program provides related support through job training, life skills workshops, and transportation assistance.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The ADDS Southeast Iowa treatment team includes master’s-level therapists, certified and licensed drug and alcohol counselors, and a U.S. DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Spanish- and Burmese-language evaluation services are provided through the Wapello office.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of Southeast Iowa’s 20-bed residential facility is located at the ADDS Lincoln Center in Burlington. The dorm-style residence is tobacco-free, and clients are responsible for completing chores. No outside employment is allowed for a majority of the program; however, according to the facility’s website, residents are active in the local community.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The sole alum polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing indicated high satisfaction with their ADDS Iowa experience. On a scale of one to five, they rated exercise and leisure activities three and four stars, as well as awarded the facility’s meals and and cleanliness five stars.
The alum expressed appreciation for counseling that addressed trauma as well as substance use, emphasizing an opportunity to develop self-worth and confidence. Metrics measuring treatment effectiveness and the staff’s level of experience and training received five and four stars, respectively. “We learned that we were still valuable members of society. Helped us to work on any problems we had,” the alum wrote.
Likewise on Google, ADDS received favorable reviews from six individuals, with a rating of 4.2 out of five stars on average. Comments included praise for the helpful staff and program.[1] “Great staff wonderful program! Very grateful,” alum Jennifer wrote.
FINANCING
According to the facility’s website, ADDS accepts some health insurance plans and offers a sliding fee scale. Clients are required to pay $230 upon admission to the residential program for the first 21 days of treatment. When clients become employed, the fee is 35 percent of their net incomes.
CONCLUSION
Per a Hawkeye local newspaper story in June 2018, ADDS was in the process of opening Burlington, Iowa’s first medication-assisted treatment clinic for individuals struggling with opioid addiction.
